    Hi everyone,
Recently I acquired some spyware (at least I think it qualifys). It seems to create a new window send some information then try to close after 15 seconds, at least I think... I have the source which I'll include at the bottom of my post. I have run norton antivirus, ad-aware personal and searched myself for what ever is doing this. If anyone can help me I'd be forever grateful.
    Thanks,
    eae4k
P.S. Looking forward to joining the community.

Please follow standard cleanup procedures as given below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above and you still have a problem, make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps below:

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Download HijackThis 1.99.1

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the ZIP file as your backups will not be safely stored.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gifBefore running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gifRun HijackThis and save your log file.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next post. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post as it will be removed).

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gifNeed help with HJT? See this thread: NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

Thanks. So far I've gone through all the Basic Spyware, trojan and virus removal. Also I went though HijackThis... I fixed four of the files. I'll post the new logfile. I still can't get the spyware pop-up to go away now there is a buger advert that comes up with it :( . www.affiliatetarget.com/nak3/1.html is where the spyware pop-up goes most of the time. If anyone can help I'll be so grateful. Thanks.

Please look in Add or Remove Programs for the following and Uninstall them if found:

    PLook

Now scan with HijackThis and Check the Boxes for the following:

Make sure All Browser Windows are Closed when you Click FIX.

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\tibs3.exe

    NEXT:
Run CCleaner to clean up cookies and temp files.

Run full scans with Ad-Aware SE & Spybot S&D and have both programs fix what they find.
Note: Remember to get all updates before doing the scans.

Then, as an added precaution, Go to Start > Run and type: cleanmgr and then click OK. Make sure the boxes for these are checked:
    Temporary Files
    Temporary Internet Files
    Recycle Bin

    And Click OK.

Reboot to Normal Windows , Scan with HijackThis and attach the new log.

Are you familiar with this entry above? If not, have HJT fix it.

Other than this your log is clean, you must now surf in to windows updates and get updated. You need to upgrade to Service Pack 2 for all the latest security updates and patches.

After you install SP2 and get all critical updated reboot and attach one last HJT log.

When I use HJT again I looked for
    Code:
     R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = 37;64.136.29.30;64.136.21.30;64.136.29.34;searchap.untd.com;127.0.0.1;localhost; *update.microsoft.com;*windowsupdate.com;*wustat.windows.com;*.pogo.com;*test-sp eed.com;liveupdate.symantecliveupdate.com;*symantec.com;*.nai.com;*.networkassoc iates.com;
but it wasn't there. Also I noticed that the netzero minisearch R1's were back -
    Code:
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://my.netzero.net/s/search?r=minisearch
    - Theres acctually four or five but there basically the same thing. Also msn gaming zone reappears in my program files folder. Is the service pack in bigfix? Thanks.

All of those entries are legit, the R1 entries are NetZero so they are ok. You need to install Service Pack 2 from Windows Updates, never used bigfix.

Okay so I'm fixing up my other computer now (XP). Can you check my log I have a trojan. The noticable problem is when I start up my comp I get a window (C:/temp/update) Its an html document. When looking at the update file I saw a link to the same site as one in my HijackThis log - O16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windupdates.com/cab/MediaAccessVerisign/ie/Bridge-c139.cab Also a dos command prompt comes up with it. Thanks, I'll post my old log and the new one. I've deleted quite a few things.
