Need a few good programs

Anyone might know of a good registry cleaner and defragmenter and a startup manager thanks

 

For a registry cleaner, I prefer Lexun RegScrub XP

For a startup manager, try Microsoft Windows Defender

And as for a defragmenter, I don't know what tops the native defrag utility.

Registry Cleaner:
CCleaner has a registry cleaner. If you haven't already installed it; you should definitely give it a try. It offers several options like removing registry entries that go nowhere and works wonders removing other various program 'leftovers' that are obsolete, or aren't listed in Add/Remove after you attempt to uninstall programs and utilities. It is especially helpful for anyone who installs/reinstalls or removes programs on a regular basis. You can also CCleaner to get rid of the "hidden" temporary files and other junk files from your system and free up even more space.

Defragmenter:
O&O Defrag 2000 Freeware Edition works for Win NT/2000/XP. During the installation process it gives you several options as to how you can install it; i.e. whether you want it to be your 'default' defragger or not. However it takes a little bit longer to defrag the system than the already installed XP defragger.

Startup manager:
If you're looking for simplicity: StartUp 0.1.1.0 is probably the easiest to use. It allows you to add/ edit/ disable/ remove start-up items from the easy to use user interface.

For more experienced users: Autoruns is simply the best freeware startup manager out there and is small [only 210 Kb]. If you've never used Autoruns before; be sure to carefully read the HELP files prior to using this utility because it was designed for advanced users
