I have a very good program for recovering deleted files off deleted partitions. What it doesn't do however, is rebuilding a crashed partition or repairing the MBR. That's what I'm looking for. I need one which can run under windows, NOT one which runs exclusively off a boot disk. I don't mind if it can create a rescue disk/CD but I need it to also be able tu run under windows.

PS: do not mention partition table doctor please!

I'm assuming that you'd be trying to repair the MBR of a slaved drive. You wouldn't be able to perform any MBR or boot sector work on the drive that's running the Windows that you'd be using. Unfortunatley, I know of no such programs. I can recommend using the UBCD4Win (Ultimate Boot CD for Windows- link: http://www.ubcd4win.com/). It's a 'live' Windows CD; meaning that you're in a Windows like environment that runs entirely off the CD, similar to the Knoppix Linux CD. The UBCD4Win is loaded with all kinds of tools including various partition repair/rebuild tools. Plus, you have the option of adding your own utils when you 'build' the CD. Creating the CD is easy if you follow the directions carefully (print them if possible).... Good Luck!

Yeah I'm not trying to repair problems with the partition that's actively running the OS.

Like I said, I don't know of any MBR type of tools that run from within Windows; they're all bootable. You can take a look at the UBCD4Win web site and see if creating the CD will be worth the time and trouble. The site lists all the tools included and you can look to see if something you can use is listed. You can also try the regular Ultimate Boot CD (available here at Major Geeks)... but again, all the tools are bootable and don't run from within Windows; that's why I mentioned the UBCD4Win. It looks and feels like Windows so the tools included may be easier to use and understand. Good Luck!

I looked into it a little and it doesn't seem like that I'm looking for. Is Active@ Partition Recovery any good?
