I have no clue at all what is going on. First time I ever hooked up an MP3 Player and windows XP is driving me mad. It keeps constantly bleeping and hollering about Found new hardware MTP device. I right click and left click and nothing happens. Don't know what an MTP device is, and have no idea what XP expects me to do about it. Any help is most appreciated.

Go to Control Panel > Taskbar & Start Menu.

Then on the Taskbar menu hit "Customize". That will show you the current items in your taskbar. You should have one that says "no title" - that is your MTP Device. Click on the "Hide when inactive" and change it to "Always hide".

This should have no affect on your MP3 player

The necessary drivers are supposed to be included in Windows Media Player 10 and 11. Without the drivers Windows won't recognize the MTP device. If you already have Media Player 10 or 11 installed, try uninstalling Media Player and re-installing. If there's still no joy, you could download the Microsoft driver directly at their site here.

THanks very much everyone. Looks like that did it. I am still so far behind in the technology curve it feels a bit overwhelming. Never expected to get an MP3 player but finally did.
