i've been searching for a good converter for .. at least 2 days now and i cant find anything worth it .

what i'm trying to do , is convert my collection of avi movies on my computer.
onto a couple of dvds for my dad / sister to watch .

since mpeg2 is the format that dvd players play .. avi to mpeg2 ?
and i would assume since an avi movie is about 700mb, so would an mpeg2 movie . so . 6 movies in 1 dvd possible in mpeg2 format ?

im trying blazemp pro right now, im unsure of if its working or not .

and please dont just google this and tell me that the first one works.
i'd like to know if you've actually used it and it works in a reasonable amount of time .

    thanks -

edit : tried the disk from blazemp and theres no audio . seems i have even more problems.

edit : default audio for dvd players?

    Hi,

Have you considered using DVDFlick? I've been using that program for several months and have been satisfied with it. Not only will it accept your .avi files but it will do the needed conversion and burn them to DVD. Check it out. It's a free program.

the last time I was anywhere near what your trying to do I was using TMPGEnc to turn the avi files into m2v (video) and wav (audio) and then using TMPGEnc DVD Author to put them all together into a dvd. No you cannot burn mpeg2 files to a disk and have a regular settop player recognize them. They must be in dvd format or you have to have a special player like the ones that play avi files directly (divx compatible) they might play mpeg2, I never tried it though.

takes my avi, converts it on the spot, burns to a dvd . approx 2 movies per dvd .

I just recently started experimenting with Convertx and I found I have the same problem with it that I used to have with Avi2Dvd (freeware by the way). What happens is, if I convert a widescreen version from avi to dvd, no matter what configuration I choose, it ends up showing on my normal sized TV, full screen from top to bottom with no letter box black lines. The problem is that in doing so a good 1/4 or more of the video is pushed off the sides of the screen, sometimes so bad as to cut off intros and subtitles.

What I found, from my days with Avi2Dvd, was that inside the IFO files, the converters were putting a check mark in Pan&Scan which is why it would size itself to the hieght of the screen. The fix I found was a freeware noinstall program called IFOEDIT. Basically it would go like this:

1.Convert to dvd but to the hard drive only, not to dvd disk or iso.

2.Run Ifoedit and open the VIDEO_TS folder, for a single avi to dvd conversion there should only be two ifo's.

3.Select each Ifo in turn and double click on any line in the bottom window that has a 9x16 in it and uncheck Pan&Scan leaving just Letter Box checked and save and also save the backup(bup file).

4.Reopen each and check to make sure they were changed and close Ifoedit.

    5. With Convertx you can now select the files and burn them. the resulting dvd will show as a widescreen movie with the black lines at the top and bottom on a regular TV.

I hope this helps someone before they burn too many full screen versions of a widescreen movie like I did.
