Windows XP defrag program only lets you defrag one hard drive at a time.
Is there a defrag program for XP that will let me defrag all hard drives at once??
    Please give download URL.
    thanks

Please read the following very, very, carefully.

That does not mean defrag one after the other.
It means defrag all four of my hard drives simultaenously.

Got you now, Quark. Don't know if there is one out there. It would take a lot of memory and CPU resources to do more than one drive at a time.

Norton Utilities does it for Win98, but not for XP.

I dont care how much it taxes my system, I got more memory and CPU resources than you can shake a stick at.

Eh, right ...., I know what simultaneously means. rolleyes But, would doing that really get the job done any faster than doing them sequentially? The drive has to do the same amount of work, either way.

Well, anyway, I'll stay tuned to this channel. I'm curious to see whether anybody knows of a defragmenter that will do this.

I was not trying to be rude or insulting, I just wanted to be understood.
If wanted to be rude, I can assure you, that I would have done so in no uncertain terms.

yes, defragging 4 drives it would be nearly 4 times as fast to do them simultaneously.
I have seen it done on Win98 using Norton Speed Disk.

OK, can we just clarify one point here? You're talking about 4 physical hard drives, not a single drive with 4 partitions, right? If you're talking about 4 physical hard drives, then I agree with you.

    ya 4 physical hard drives.

(under certain conditions virtual drives as well, but im not going to debate that here.)

O&O ( maybe the server version ) will do multiples at once, maybe slower than doing one drive but it handles multiples, I only had 3 drives while using this software on XP, but dont see why it no work for 4

*note it may queue 1 or two up as to defrag as you also need a serious amount of free ram to handle the files moving around, but this app will once you set all drives to defrag do them without you having to set each one going once last finsihed.

    NOPE, thats defraging consecutively.
I want to defrag all four of my hard drives simultaenously.
The things you suggested were already suggested to me just a few posts down from here, to which I replied with the above statement. I'm looking for help on this topic, not redundant inadequate replies. If you are incapable of reading back just a few posts and understanding how a topic has been proceeding and choose instead to just simply blurt out a redundant inadequate reply, i would appreciate it if you would simply avoid any of my threads all together.
    Thank you

Not a problem Quark, its an app I use, generally I will only suggest software I have personally used, really helps if user has a problem with what I suggested as I can follow up.

FYI: perfectdisk will defrag multiple drives at the same time.
personally i like perfect disk better than O&O because of it's "smart-placement" feature-and its much simpler interface.

    good luck.

Diskeeper also defrags multiple drives simultaneously, with the additional option of automatic defrag. I've run simultaneous manual defrag on two volumes (actually 2 different partitions on 2 physical drives), but it didn't seem to cause any performance issues. Never tried manual defrag on 4 simultaneously though.
