I tried installing NFS HP on my windows 7 and all installs fine but when I go to run it I get something like "d3dx9_42.dll missing".
I have tried everything and my system more than meets min requirements!
    I tried uninstalling and reinstalling
I tried downloading d3dx9_42.dll and putting it in system32
I tried downloading the latest drivers and I already have them
I have done a registry fix
I tried checking I have the latest directx but when it comes to the end of the installation it says "please refer to dxerror.log and directx.log in your windows folder to determine problem" and the installation won't complete, I checked directx.log and it says that there are no problems.
I also checked my system and it says that I have directx 11 already!
I'm completely lost does anyone have any ideas?

    Please help me!!!!

Ok Bobby, you made a couple of bad moves there; downloading a single file (probably not from a trusted source) and doing a 'registry fix' - either of these things could have got Windows into deeper problems, the 'registry fix' may yet cause problems later on.

    Lecture over ;)

Even though Vista comes with DX10 and W7 is shipped with DX11, neither of these is fully backwards compatible with all the 'older' games that need DX9 :( simple fix, install DX9 :)

Hello thanks for replying but I tried that already and then at the end of installing is says internal system error and please refer to dxerror.log and directx.log in your windows folder to determine problem.
And yup I thought that but I've been trying all day just to play my game :( I did a backup first!

Could you post the dxerror.log, directx.log and setuperr.log, if you copy them to your Desktop then zip them, you can attach them to your next post.

Where did you download the latest graphics drivers from? MS/Windows Update will give you drivers that are only good for Windows Aero, not for gaming - who's the maker of your graphics card/chipset?

I also found setuperr.log but it is a blank file

That's good news, it means that there were no errors during Windows installation :)

I'm puzzled, I see no sign of the DX9C installer trying to install d3dx9_42.dll, there's no check for it, nothing.

I'm wondering whether it's to do with the Intel graphics chip that your notebook has and the fact that it looks like you're running the MS driver for it, you could try visiting the Intel website and downloading their latest drivers for it, after a reboot, you could try the DX installer and then the game again.

Grr, it won't even let me install that :(

It may not be installing because it has an 'unsigned' driver, try this, reboot and then retry the install.

    Don't try that, it doesn't work :(

I hate this 10 minute EDIT window ...

Ok, checkout the readme file for the installer, it lists several ways to install, try them all.

    Hi

I agree with Satrow and its the DX9c files that are missing, but on the CD/DVD for NFS when you open it with Explorer do you see a DirectX folder as you should, install that version of DX9, may need to on the setup file right click and choose Run as Administrator.

If its not on the disk, where did you get the game from?
