As title already states I'm looking to buy a gaming lap top. I already know lap tops aren't made for gaming this doesn't bother much because the lap top as well will be used for school. I've been searching around and found a couple I just don't know however what to choose. I've found a couple of alien ware laps but people tell me alien ware is just over priced laps. I have around a 1.5~ 2k maybe a tad more spending limit. I truthfully want the lap to play counter strike go and some other mmos but yes this lap will mostly be used for fps games.

    Hi

Likelyhood of why not so many replies is that laptops are a scary area for folk to suggest a definative product, unlike desktops, laptops are all encompasing and a final product.

What I would do is to give us link to the laptops you are thinking of and we can then get a good idea where you are going,

Ideal for a gaming laptop is at least a dual core CPU, 4-6GB ram, 7200RPM HDD or SSD, dedicated GFX card at 1GB ram Nvidia or ATi and NOT Intel at all..... Intel is ok for normal daily usage but for high end gaming Nooooo.

It's also because the phrase "gaming laptop" is considered an oxymoron. ;)

I would stay away from Alienware. They are over-priced for what's actually under the hood, and since they can't be upgraded you end up over-paying for hardware that looks shiny-fancy but can't actually do much. Might as well buy a MacBook. ;) If you are serious about buying a high-powered laptop, I would look at ASUS, Lenovo, or possibly HP's high-end ones. those are the brands I have had good experiences with.

If you tell us the types of games you want to be able to play, that makes it easier for us to make suggestions. Also be sure to keep in mind that if you want gaming power you will have to sacrifice easy portability and battery life to get it. I have a laptop that can play Dragon Age without breaking a sweat and Deus Ex: HR on mid-settings, but on battery I can only play for about half an hour.

If it was my money, I'd take one of the HPs, probably the dv7. Smaller numbers on the price tag, but similar specs, and I have positive past experiences with high-end HP latops. :)
