    To all,
I have a Win XP computer and I want to convert it to Win95. I realize that I need to reformat to FAT32. Is there any normal procedures for this? Do you recommend any SW tools to do the format and fdisk etc.?
    Thanks in advance, Yodel99

The easiest way would be to boot to a Win98 Boot disk, run 'FDISK' to erase the WinXP partition, run it again after rebooting to create a FAT32 partition, and run 'FORMAT C:' to format the drive. You can try booting to Super FDisk, a free download in the Drive Utilities section; it'll create a floppy disk that you'd boot to, and you'd do all your partition work from there...

    As Hopperdave has said, otherwise,
To save time, I keep this on hand. from microsofts, I believe, as I cannot always remember all the fiddly bits -
Go into your BIOS to change the boot sequence to do this making your CD-ROM drive your primary boot device, then, use the Recovery Console tool on the Windows XP CD-ROM.
Start the computer by using the Windows XP CD-ROM
Once the computer has booted from the CD and you see a "Welcome to Windows Setup" screen appear and after all the drivers have loaded (shown along the bottom), press F10 or wait and choose to use the recovery console (choose item #2).
specify the appropriate Windows installation. It will be listed. It's probably #1.(or, C:) Then when asked for Windows XP Administrator password. just hit the Enter key, as the password is normally not set, therefore probably blank.

    For FAT32
type: map and hit the ENTER key.
Note the drive that you want to reformat. The drive letters may be different in the Recovery Console from what they are in Windows XP, but if you want to reformat the C: drive then its the largest.
Next, type: format C: and hit your ENTER key.
Next, type: y Then press ENTER to continue.
When the formatting process is finished, type exit
and then press the ENTER key to restart the computer

I just have to ask. Why do you want to go back to Windows 95? Most of today's software won't run on it.

Much thanks for your assistance. Super FDisk and the boot file from bootdisk.com worked like a champ! The reason for the switch is that we had a win95 pc running an eprom burner, which only worked with win95. The pc died and IT wanted us to go to winXP. That would require an eprom burner upgrade of $5000. IT could care less about the cost, they want all the PCs uniform. Being the resourceful (aka cheap) person I am, I just couldn't go there.....so with your help, I got win95 going again for nothing. Thanks!!!
