Need help finding a new tower

    I'm asking for a new tower for xmas and I have no clue on which are good and not...can anyone tell me what to stay away from...I don't know much about the acer...or compaq...always had a HP...thanks for any help...

    Hi

    Acer, HP/Compaq (same company) as well as Dell are all ok, I generally build my own desktops but buy laptops/netbooks from those companies, have HP and Dells in my office in work.

    Kinda depends on what you want to use the PC for and what sort of price range would be the gifts cost?

    High end ACERs are good, I know Nick ADSL a admin on the site here has one, but if you can list what you woudl be using the PC for and price raneg many some ideas on spec can be posted.

    I wont go the way of building your own, while worthwile, it seems thats not the route you wish to take for a present, a self build is for a time when you want a project and know how to build a PC, so if you do know how to build a PC, then that option "could" also worth looking into.

    Well I basically would be using this for personal pleasure...I download pix I take or movies from camcorder...I download music...I play games...facebook...the basic stuff...and hoping to stay under $400...Hope this helps.

    Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Since you're asking for an opinion, DoeZ, I'd recommend staying away from eMachines - I've worked on many through the years (which is itself an indicator of problems), and I've found that the company tends to use low-end products in their builds, and that their tech support is almost non-existant...

    As Halo alluded, stick with the heavyweights, like Dell and HP - I think you'll find that in the long run, their experience with building good, reliable machines will win out...
