need help finding drivers

    ok so i took over my bros old piece of junk pc thats running windows xp the problem is that i tried installing a disc drive and it wont read the disc drive properly it always comes in as an unknown device and the drive shows no maker on it so i have no idea who made it or where to start for specific drivers is there maybe a generic driver that would work for this?

    Drivers for disc drives are built into windows, so third-party drivers generally aren't needed. What kind of drive are we talking about? A hard disc or optical disc? what type of connection does the drive use, IDE or SATA?

    its ide and it always comes in as a unknown device

    it could be the disc drive is shot but im unsure it gave error in my other computer too but it just wouldnt read a disc this wont install the driver at all

    since its a junk system i might reimage it to original install specs and see if that doesnt fix the crap on it since my other brother used to test crazy vbs and batch scripts on it so im sure the registry probably has some issues as well

    as for the type of drive its optical cd rewritable drive with speed specs of 52 32 52

    hope that helps like i said i might just reimage it

    Hi


    Check in Device Manager if you have any yellow ! marks by any devices, if you do please tell us what they are, then if you dont have any ! marks, open

    up the DVD/CD Rom branch and right click and uninstall the CDROM/DVD drive, then reboot and the driver should re-load.

    If that doesnt work then run this HERE to delete the upper and lower filters.


    But a re-install is also a good idea to do, especially with an older PC, a re-install of Windows is sometimes like a new breath of fresh air to a PC.

    the yellow marks i have are only for an unknown device which to the best of my knowledge can only be the cd drive

    im going to try safe mode to install the last one because no matter what it somes up as unsupported device
