For a few months now I have noticed that when I start up my machine I am getting an error message stating "TaskPanl.exe - Unable to locate component ... The application has failed to start because E60Cmmon.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem."

As a result of this Internet Explorer is not launching. I get an error message stating that "page cannot be found". I reinstalled Symantec but I cannot update the software because IE is not working.

I installed Hijack to see if the problem can be identified. Here is my log file.

    Hope that you can help.

That dll has to do with your Earthlink - I suspect reinstalling thier software will cure the problem.

    Welcome to MGs!

I do not believe problems with E60Cmmon.dll are related to malware and I don't know why you think HijackThis would show anything about it. HijackThis is far from a cure all and should be the last thing anyone uses. Like CP stated, I also believe that DLL file is probably part of your ISP software (Earthlink). Make you should either reinstall it or completely uninstall it if it is not required to connect.

However you do have other malware issues and should follow standard cleaning procedures given below so we can get them removed. Also please do not post incomplete HijackThis logs. All lines from the log (including the top 4 must be posted).

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)
    • Bitdefender
    • Panda Scan
    • HijackThis
