Need help removing major spam problem/possible virus

    A few days ago i turned on my computer, and this message came up saying RUNDLL ERROR loading c:/windows\system32\momapevi.dll The specified module can not be found. Soon after I connected to my internet, not right after, but after some time many internet explorer windows opened right after another. I tried closing them, but more appeared. Pretty soon my computer was completely lagged out, so I was forced to manually shut down. This happened again after I restarted and surfed for some time. I went to my task manager and to processes to find h6ijj2.exe many times, over 20, it actually is happening as I speak, so please help. I just managed to close all 16 internet explorer windows, and shut off the internet for a second. Please help if anyone knows whats wrong? I've had problems in the past and found this forum and its members to be very helpful!

    Please begin by clicking Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > View > Show Hidden Devices.
    • Scroll down to “Non-plug and Play Drivers” and click the plus icon to open those drivers.
    • Then search forTDSSserv.sys
    • Let me know if you find this or not.
    • If you do find it, right click on it, and select Disable. Do not try to uninstall it.
    • Also if TDSSserv.sys is found and you disable it, then reboot.
    • After reboot continue on with the below cleaning instructions.

    Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    Notes:
    1. If you run into problems trying to run theREAD & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

    I started with what you first said. I did what you asked and did not find TDSSserv.sys. I then proceeded to the READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide. I could not find MSconfig when I was asked to go to Start>Run>and search MSconfig. I tried to search for it but the computer found no trace of it. I then did the rest in order. Dowloaded everthing, and ran everything in the order I was told to. The logs are in the attachment as I was told to do. And I do not appear to have problems as I did before. I've been connected to the internet for some time now. Thank You.

    You needed to attach the correct log from MGtools. The log is C:\MGlogs.zip Do not attach anything from inside of the C:\MGtools folder. However do not bother attaching the log right now. I have a fix for you to run first and then I will have you get a new log.

    Your Malwarebytes log shows that you took No Action. Did you actually fix what it found?

    I strongly advise you to cleanup your Desktop. Remove eveything but links to run programs. Do not download and save programs here and defintely do not use it for long term storage. You need to keep ComboFix.exe here for now as we need it, but we will be removing it when we are finished with your cleanup. A cluttered Desktop is malware's playground and it can also cause performance degradation especially when you start saving large files here like you are doing.

    Uninstall the below software:
    Viewpoint Media Player <-- should have been uninstalled in step 1 of the READ ME

    Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.


    Now run Ccleaner to clean out only temp files and nothing else!

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    After running mgtools was I supposed to have a log pop up? because nothing came up after it finished... So I'm not sure what log you need for mg tools, but I have the one for combofix here. And things are well, dont seem to have any problems so far.

    No.

    The one I asked for: C:\MGlogs.zip This is the same log you were supposed to attach when you first ran MGtools while following the READ & RUN ME instructions but you never attached it.

    Are you sure that you are not having problems? How about when you do Google searches and click on links? Are you going to the correct links or are you being hijacked?

    No not as far as I can tell. The links I click on take me where they should. Although my pc seems to run a bit slower than usual?

    It was not necessary to search for it. We specified the file name in the READ & RUN ME and I also gave the name to you twice in this thread. The file is C:\MGlogs.zip That is all you needed to enter into the Manage Attachments form and then click Upload. ;)



    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    Optionally fix the below which are not necessary startups and are potential reasons for you saying things seem slow, especially veohwebplayer.

    Your logs are clean.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
