The McAfee on my computer has detected an infected file c:\windows\system32\pmkhi.dll that it keeps trying to delete but then it comes right back. It has slowed down my system and even is causing pop ups. How do I fix this? Thank you.

Here are the logs you requested. The McAfee isn't finding the virus anymore. I ran the AVG and followed the instructions but it for some reason didn't generate a log. Is my computer clean now? If so, thank you so much for your help. You're a life saver! If not, I look forward to your future help. :D

That does not mean very much. McAfee and Symantec (and other major AV programs) miss many of the problems like Vundo all the time. In fact ComboFix already deleted a bunch that your McAfee was missing besides the pmkhi.dll file.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    Java Runtime Environment 1.1
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03

Make sure you reboot after uninstalling the above!

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java RuntimeEnvironment

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but [COLOR=[/B]
darkred]DO NOT CLICK FIX[/color] until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
    O4 - Global Startup: logon.lnk = C:\logon.bat

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it
double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that
will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

That's great but could you put anyone of the below files into a ZIP file and attach it here. I want to be sure about what these maybe. Only only need one of them. We deleted some and they are back again so I want to see if I can determine what they are from. I had a feeling they were related to a SmitFraud type infection.

    Code:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\candice\Local Settings\Temp\"
    dio3.tmp Jan 7 2008 47122 "DIO3.tmp"
    dio5.tmp Jan 7 2008 47122 "DIO5.tmp"
    dio6.tmp Jan 7 2008 47122 "DIO6.tmp"
    dio7.tmp Jan 7 2008 47122 "DIO7.tmp"
    dioe.tmp Jan 7 2008 47122 "DIOE.tmp"
    diof.tmp Jan 7 2008 47122 "DIOF.tmp"

Yes that was all and now they don't either. They are used for language translation in something you run (maybe even part of Windows).

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used ComboFix then UNINSTALL COMBOFIX (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN
      • Now type combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
      • Note: The space between the X and the U, it must be there.
    2. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    3. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    6. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
