Hoping somebody can help out with this problem.

I had a serious malware attack on my son's laptop, and in the process of cleaning it up, I completely lost my network connections. Totally gone. Running XP SP3 on a Gateway laptop.

If I look at the Network Connections window from the Contol Panel, it's totally blank.

Looking at the hardware device manager, there is no "Network Adapters", but it does show "unknown" where they should be. Under "Unknown", there is "Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter", and "VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter". Both of them show the yellow exclamation point, and when I view the Device Status, it says "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers requried for this device. (Code 31)"

Looking at the Driver tab, everything appears normal with the correct version listed (according to Gateway support).

I've downloaded the device drivers from Gateway and attempted to reload them several times, but the devices won't start for various reasons.

I've deleted the devices and let Windows find them again and reinstalled the drivers, but no help.

I've even completely taken out the wireless card, rebooted, then reinstalled and rebooted again. Nothing. Still no network connections.

So, if somebody can let me know how to fix this, it would be great. Thanks!
