I have literally never used Unix/Linux ... I am needing to locate a specific file on a SCO OpenServer Release 5 box, retrieve it (I guess the only way is by using a floppy as this is an old PIII box and not sure if USB works) to FTP to a software mfg company.

I am logged in as "root" ... I've tried the "locate" command with no luck based on a fellow engineer's guidance.

Any help is greatly appreciated ...

I would have reccomended locate, too.

Linux is case sensitive, so, try adding a switch to it.

    locate -i filename

    This ignores the case type.

For more info about locate, type

    man locate

If locate is giving you an error, take note what it is and post back.
