I just bought Seagate GoFlex 2.0 TB External HDD.

When I plugged it, it shows 2 Folders named “Seagate” & “USB 3.0 PC Card Adapter”

It also has “Autorun” MacInstaller.dmg” & “Setup” icons.

I have never used such a HDD & don’t know how to set it up.

This is what I want to do & you guys can tell me, how to go about it.

I want to make 3 Parttions. I want to install Win-7 in one 100 GB partition, back up my data in second
500 GB partition & put all Multimedia files in 3rd leftover Partition.

Can I just delete all the above mentioned files & folders it came with ? Do I need them ?

OR can I just cut them out, paste it in another main HDD & then proceed with what I want to do
with plain blank 2 TB HDD ?

I know how to Partition & install Windows-7 on an internal HDD but never used such an external HDD.
    Please help.
    Thanks

The USB 3 PC card adapter is for high speed USB 3 which most MOBOs do not have yet and you need an adapter to use it so you don't need that.

Autorun” MacInstaller is for APPLE pcs so you don't need that.

As for installing an OS on the external drive it will not run well and be incredibly slow, An OS needs to be on an internal drive.

Otherwise just use it like any other external HDD.

So can I just delete everything it came with & make 2 Partitions, one for back up & the other for multimedia files ? OR do I needto keep other stuff like "setup" which says Seagate File Description Seagate Launcher & Seagate Dashboard application ( 4.2 MB )

I basically bought it for storing Large multimedia files.

It is not necessary to delete the files as they will not effect the way the HDD operates and on a 2 Tb drive you are not short of space but if you do delete them it will have no detrimental results.

I wasn't worried about the space it takes up. Just wanted to know if deleting would hurt the HDD.

Can I just put them all in one folder & leave it so if something goes wrong I can just put them back the way they came with HDD ?

And I do appreciate your feed back & want to sincerely Thank YOU.

Yes putting them in 1 folder is a good idea.
