I have purchased a new computer with Vista and am trying to transfer everything from my other computer (XP) to the new one.

I bought a Belkin "Easy" (yeah right) Transfer Cable.

Everything seems to go fine until I get this.

Transfer failed for D:\PRELOAD\BASE_23.INP... Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

It then says to click :continue" to skip this file.

I have not only hit "continue" numerous times but, I have also started over and hit "Cancel" and " Retry" too.

They all have the same effect which is to stop the transfer.

What's also strange is as soon as I get to this point and click on any one of the 3 options, the little icon showing the USB cable unplugged (USB and a flashing X) comes on both computers.

Nothing else comes up though showing that the transfer has been aborted.

Anyone have an idea what's going on or how to fix it?

Please keep in mind that I'm a relative computer novice and probably can't do anything that takes deep technical knowledge.

I thank all in advance. :)

Well, you know, you can't transfer Programs that way, right?

    You can only transfer data.
Personally, I'd slave the old HD to the new computer and just drag and drop the files I want, to the new HD.

My second choice would be to burn the files to a DVD on the old computer and then restore them to the new one, as you need them.
I like this method, because it gives you a permanent copy of all the data.

Programs will have to be installed from the original install (Setup) files.

I have to do this stuff weekly, so I've become pretty good at it.
I would never use a USB cable, because USB is inheritantly too Slow.

    Good Luck,

No, I wasn't aware of that.

Maybe that explains why it says my new computer doesn't have enough memory?

I have solved the registry problem (BASE_23.INP) but, now it won't let me transfer as it recommends because my new computer doesn't have enough memory.

This is ludicrous to me since my old computer has 512MB of memory and the new one has 4GB's.

    What's up with that?

    I appreciate your help.
