    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

What about the online scans. You need to run the Panda ActiveScan and the BitDefender online scans.

You had three browser windows open when you ran HJT please make sure you close ALL browser windows when running scans (except of course for the online scans)

You have used MSconfig to block startup entries, please fix this as per the instructions before continuing.

You do have at least one malware infection. We need you to do all the scans since some of the stuff may be fixed by them and will save us and you time and trouble when it comes to a manual fix.

You have a lot of bad stuff hiding on your PC. We can see some of it from the logs you posted; however to do a complete job in removing all of your malware, you need to run the two online scanners as Matt indicated. They will often find many things that other programs do not. Even if they don't fix everything they find, they are an aid to us in finding the problems so we can manually removed them.

You should also run this: Virtumonde aka Trojan Vundo Removal and attach the requested VundoFix log.

Thx guys, I couldn't run those online scanners (oops shampoo popup again), I'm gonna reformat my HD and protect my laptop per your instructions. I'm sorry I didn't know about your web site earlier.
    Thx again.

The final decision is yours on how you want to proceed but a format is not necessary. We can fix your malware problems. I already have a procedure written up for you even with out the other logs. It would just be more complete if you had the online scanners. There also should be no reason why you cannot run the VundoFix procedure which will help remove a bunch of problems.

Let me know what you decide you want to do..... fix vs format! A reinstall requires more effort than many people think. Especially to get back to a level of where you system is at. You have to consider all of the below:
    • you have to backup all you own data, settings, configurations etc and first you have to know what/where all of these are. And you have to have the medium (burnable media, second hard drive, tape drive [yuck] )
    • then you must make sure you have the necessary disks to reinstall not just your OS but all other software you use especially protection before going online
    • then fdisk, format, reinstall the OS
    • now reinstall all your software especially protection
    • get online (requires some setup and config that novices have problems with)
    • download updates for OS
    • download updates for protection software
    • download updates for all other software
    • tweak all software back the way you like it. Including Desktop settings, icons etc.
    • create all the folders that you use for everything in your normally routines
    • re-load from your backups to get data back, to get settings, Favorites,.....etc back
    • now over the next two weeks you will realize that you forgot to backup some stuff and also you will keep finding something else that you need to reinstall.

Already finished formating and installing drivers and software (use Dell recovery disk), did everything per your "How to protect your PC" instructions.
I hope I backup everything (there is no much, few word files and pics)
Now everything works fine, don't know for how long.
    Thanks
