    directx just won't install.

    dxwebsetup shows a advpack.dll error

    directx_Jun2010_redist shows a internal error

    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Most of what I found online didn't help at all.

    • DirectX 11.0 is included in Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2. There is no stand-alone update package for this version. You can update DirectX by installing the service pack and update listed below.
    • DirectX 11.1 is available for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 RS SP1, with Platform Update for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 (KB2670838)."

Strangly it seems I have that download installed, would there be a way to forcefully reinstall it?

In order to get a aged game I want to work going I supposeinly need 9c and its runtimes. Does 11.1 have the 9c stuff built in?

    Thanks for helping me.

It should encompass all previous builds. Have you tried compatibility mode?

Oddly I had not but I just did and still I get "failed to install directx" and it refuses to install the rest/let me play because of that.

Edit: (seems i can't edit my posts?) its "update of directx failed" which is odd because it can only go up to dx11 and my other games are fine..

^The 2 links right above the installer only really gives me the "internal error" I noted in my main post.

I did both above and I still have the problem.

Does windows 7 just refuse to let things like dxwebsetup run?

new picture of error so there is a picture of it. I mean honestly I think I just need the DX program to run, find out I have newer, then acceptably close. Maybe even just install one or two special .dlls just for that game like old games used to want to do.

The file causing the problem (advpack.dll) is required for Internet Explorer. Ensure IE isn't running.

You should also run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
On the Start menu type dxdiag and hit Enter.
Click on the different tabs to see if there are any errors.

Do you have the Windows 7 SP1 disc?

I have a windows disk that i use if i ever need to reinstall windows 7 if thats what you mean. But windows update says everything is up to date so I should have the latest windows 7.

I've already did the dxdiag thing, the log is in the main post, idk if there is anything wrong in it thro as idk how to read it but the tabs all said everything was ok.

(About the IE thing) I guess a problom with that is I have no understanding of IE other then it sucks. So I use firefox. In fact the only time I use IE is in a fresh windows install to download firefox. lol

I have a question. Can Someone just send me a "non corrupt" advpack.dll? Maybe that will work?

I feel like touching the windows disk is always a total last resort.

I also wonder how just redoing windows will help if even outside tools say that everything is in working order.

The correct one would just be the latest one as I have the supposed latest updates and just making sure i have 64 bit because my windows is 64 bit right?

    Correct.

Oddly I installed the .dll and when trying to install the thing it still says the .dll is the problem.

It wouldn't say the .dll is the problem if the problem was something else right? ._.

    I'm out of options... :(
This DirectX update installed in both Windows 7 Ultimate and XP Professional without any hiccups.
I would repair Windows but, it's up to you.
