Need Help With Elecard

OK, recently my system had a minor crash (any crash you can restart from...) and while rebuilding my files and all, I'm downloading various video players and so far so good until I had to find and reinstall Elecard MPEG4 player.

Now I had some files that clearly needed a certain kind of vid player, but the majority of my files played okay with what I had. Now I installed Elecard and the intall process stalled. I tried again, and it turns out it had a spyware pest in the program. So I downloaded it from another source. Once I finally get the thing installed and tried to play my vid files..nothing. Nada. Zip. Now some of the files that worked okay before I d/led Elecard don't work at all. In some cases I get a black screen but the sound works. THAT's aggravating. I'm going to completely uninstall Elecard but does anyone know of a good MPEG4 player besides Elecard?

OK, installed Xvid, tried to uninstall Elecard but the sticky SOB won't exorcise itself. It stalls during uninstall and freezes up.

Worse, Xvid doesn't appear to play ANYthing. Not even vid files I know are good.

Is there any way to uninstall something that won't uninstall itself on command?

Now, when I totally remove Elecard from my system will that allow my MPG files to play again? Or am I still SOL in that dept.?

See, my mpeg files don't wanna cooperate right now.

I'll uninstall elecard first then see how it goes from there.

Well the good news is that Elecard is out of my system thanks to uruninstall.

Bad news, 95% of my mpg files still won't play.

Xvid doesn't seem to work at all. I get a black screen and no sound.

Help?

I ask because with every new vid player I try to download the only files it plays are file I know are OK. But mpeg files that I was able to play before my computer crashed, I get nothing. A black screen and maybe some sound.

It's getting annoying.
