When I reboot my mom's laptop it immediately opens notepad and two separate internet explorer webpages for file encryption stuff. Here are the logs as requested. Nothing from TDSS Killer as it found nothing.

    Download and run OTM.

Download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.

    Code:
    :Files
    C:\Users\Diane\AppData\Roaming\skype.ini
    C:\ProgramData\APN

    :reg
    [-HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Tracing\APNSetup_RASAPI32]
    [-HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Tracing\APNSetup_RASMANCS]
    [-HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Tracing\TBNotifier_RASAPI32]
    [-HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Tracing\TBNotifier_RASMANCS]
    [-HKU\.DEFAULT\Software\AskPartnerNetwork]
    [-HKU\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{D4027C7F-154A-4066-A1AD-4243D8127440}]
    [-HKU\S-1-5-18\Software\AskPartnerNetwork]
    [-HKU\S-1-5-18\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{D4027C7F-154A-4066-A1AD-4243D8127440}]

    :Commands
    [emptytemp]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Push the large http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2782/4174320048_f01c448b32_o.png button.
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it into a text file to ATTACH into your next reply.

NOTE: If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and attach the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Place a checkmark next to each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.
When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
    Reboot the machine.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista, Windows7 or Win8) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

None of those registry locations appear in Rogue Killer.

You have been infected with a file encryption program (CryptoWall). See the below:

    http://www.enigmasoftware.com/cryptowallransomware-removal/

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/532879/cryptowall-new-variant-of-cryptodefense/page-4

    http://www.malwarekillers.com/recover-files-encrypted-cryptowall-cryptodefense/

You will have to reinstall your OS. Many/most or all of your files may now be encrypted and may be unrecoverable. There is a chance that some could be recovered from System Restore or from Shadow Copy but normally it is only a small number compared to what is on your PC. If you are doing your part in securing your PC and personal files, you will have backups that you can restore from after reinstalling. If you have not been doing backs then you can now see why it is important to do backups.

You're welcome. Sorry that the news had to be so bad but these encryption infections are really bad.

Can I reinstall everything from system restore or do I need the actual discs to do so?

No. System Restore is not a full backup program nor a reinstallation program. It is possible that a you would get back some files in an unenccrypted form but this may not be the ones you really need to recover ( that is like personal files: pics, music, video, docs....etc that are not part of Windows itself ). You would need your discs or you can check to see if your PC came with a factory reovery partition that would put it back into out of box condition ( all other files you have put on the PC since taking it out of the box will be gone and all personal settings too - basically you don't have a choice as the files on the PC are now encrypted ).
