hi guys, i just installed win7 32bit on my pc and after installing, the sound drivers and everything i think is already installed but the problem is that when i play a song or watch a video on youtube, the sound is funny, it has some sort of static.. anyone knows why? and when i tried to install the drivers from the cd, it says the os doesnt support this..

don't know if this will help, but i recently did a clean re-install of Windows XP on mine, and had a problem with no sound at all. seems i got all the drivers (from Dell) except the one i needed...they didn't have it. if you purchased a pre-packaged pc, check their website for drivers based on your info (in Dell's case, my Service Tag/Express Service Code located at the top of the left side of my tower). if you know who the manufacturer of your components is (my audio is SoundBlaster; video is Nvidia) you can go to their websites to check for drivers.

i didn't need to check their websites; i did it through the Driver wizard in Windows.

try this (mind you, these are the steps for XP, so 7 is probably different but shouldn't be too hard to figure out):

right click on My Computer > click on the Hardware tab > click on the Device Manager button
look and see if there's anything that says "unknown" and/or has a (yellow on XP) question mark
you may need to expand the section (click on the "+" sign)
if there is, right click on the item > click on Update Driver
go through the wizard letting it "Search the web..." and install the driver(s) it finds

Caution: you may want to create a System Restore point before you attempt this, so you can undo any changes that may make you lose sound altoghether, although you do have the option of going through the above steps & rolling back the driver(s).

another option, instead of clicking on Update Driver, would be to click on Properties > click on the Troubleshoot button (on the General tab) and see if it comes up with any help on what to do next.

if that doesn't work, i don't know enough to help you further...i'm sure someone will correct me or give you better info if mine isn't what you need.

    good luck,

    Hi

Is your version fo Windows 7 the RTM version or a beta/RC? also what location did you download it from?

Depending on hardware also depens on if there is a driver available for your PCs hardware, be that onboard audio or 3rd party addon card, in the main if a Vista driver is available it will generally work as Windows 7 is close family reletive to Vista, contrary to popular skuttlebutt and rumour Windows 7's core kernel is new and not a clone of Vista, so not all drivers and software that work with Vista may work with Windows 7.

But to assess your hardware and if drivers are available run the below.
