    Hi gncc025!
    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST and attach the requested logs. Your hijackthis log shows several problems, but HijackThis is very rarely enough information for us to find all the files causing a problem which comes back.

    Hi gncc025,

In post 2 I gave you a link to a set of instructions called the READ & RUN ME FIRST which results in 3 logs being produced from different scans we request. Once you've gotten these logs, you can post back in this thread and attach the three logs (or 2 if AVG Antispyware doesn't give you one). To attach the logs to your post, you use the manage attachments button underneath your post. The thread you mention in your post 3 may describe a problem similar to your own, but it's very rare for any two computers to have exactly the same problems. This is why we ask you to follow the generic set of instructions I indicated in post 2, so we have a beginning point to work from which is specific to your computer. Just click on the link in that post 2 and follow those instructions.

Hello abri, i have went through and followed all the instructions in Read and Run me first . the virus seems to still be on my computer so i have attached the 3 logs as requested. I appreciate you having patience with me as i am new to all of this stuff lol.

    Hi gncc025,

    1) What is in the following folders? (do not open any files)

    C:\WINDOWS\CSC
    C:\Program Files\Promosoft Corporation

    2) Go to add/remove programs and uninstall the below:

    Viewpoint Media Player
    WeatherBug
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

    3) Reboot after uninstalling the above.

    4) Install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

    5) Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Reminder] "C:\Windows\Creator\Remind_XP.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlwaysReady Power Message APP] ARPWRMSG.EXE
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSDisp32] "rundll32.exe" C:\WINDOWS\system32\drvfeh.dll,startup
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [wextract_cleanup0] "rundll32.exe" C:\WINDOWS\system32\advpack.dll,DelNodeRunDLL32 "C:\DOCUME~1\COMPAQ~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP000.TMP\"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Weather] "C:\PROGRA~1\AWS\WEATHE~1\Weather.exe" 1
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Free Registry Fix] "C:\Program Files\Promosoft Corporation\Free Registry Fix\regfix.exe" /reminder
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: gebxvuu - gebxvuu.dll (file missing)

Does the following belong to programs you know or want to keep? If not, please fix it as well.

    O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.trymedia.com (HKLM)

After you click fix, just close hijackthis.

    6) Download and install Erunt. Use it to create a backup of your registry.

    7) Please copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    8) If you do not use Windows Messenger (not to be confused with MSN Messenger!!) I would like you to run
    Disable/Remove Windows Messenger

    9) Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
    10) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

NOTE: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only. ATF Cleaner will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. Please move them to a different directory first.
    • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    • Under Main choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
    If you use Firefox browser
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    If you use Opera browser
    • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

    11) Please run C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat and attach the fresh MGlogs.zip it generates along with the Avenger log.

Let me know how things are running now?

every thing seems to be working much better now! here is my MG log, but when i ran avenger and tried to copy and paste the items you listed i would click the stop light but it said "invalid script file" so i dont have that log.

    Hi gncc025,

    First some questions:

    1) Did you get a success message when you ran the REGEDIT patch?
    2) Did you choose not to have hijackThis delete the 015 trusted zone item I asked you about or did the fix not work?
    3) Did you uninstall WeatherBug via add/remove programs?

And now, please do the following:

    4) Please run avenger again only this time use the contents of this box instead. Let me know if you get an error message again.
    5) Then run CCleaner in the default setting with the Windows Tab as the one on top.

    6) After running CCleaner, please run C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat and attach the fresh MGlogs.zip it generates along with the Avenger log.
