Need Help with Windows Firewall

For some reason I cannot change anything in my windows firewall. I goto control panel-windows firewall and the options are greyed out. It is stuck on. This is a standalon machine that is just a member of WORKGROUP. It is connected over wireless to the internet. I am not sure what is going on. I ran windows repair from the XP CD and it did not help. Any suggestions would be great.

From all my installations of XP, it seems that there is one point in the installation that asks if the computer is part of a network, and the default answer is no. Could you have possibly checked yes while installing? If so, this could be part of your problem. Before suggesting anything, I will wait for more members to read your post and reply.

I found this article that may help:

But you may find that when you click on one of the tabs, some or all of the options are grayed out, preventing you from configuring it. What gives?

The problem is that you're not logged on with an administrator account. Log off, then log back on using an administrator account, and you'll be set.

I get the same result when logged in with Administrator.

 

I had to go into the group plicy under administrative Templates->Network->Network Connections->Windows Firewall and change the first setting to disabled and then back to not configured. This fixed it even though it was already at not configured to begin with.

 

Actually, it was. Just not via gpedit.msc.
