ok, not exactly sure what my problem is... but here we go...

1 - I bought this new computer from IBUYPOWER, and its incredible.... however, i have 1 major problem. Well, atleast to any good gamer, its a problem..

2 - i go to plug in my microphone, and turn on ventrilo, and no sound comes out...

So, 3 - i go to setup modes, my soundblaster modes, and i fiddle for about 2-3 hours with crap, and nothing seems to work...

    Sound - Soundblaster X-fi
    processor - intel core 2 quad cpu q9300 @ 2.5 ( 4 cpu's )
    ram - 2302
    DX - 10
    OS - vista ultimate
    graphics - nvidia 9600 GT 1904mb

anything else you need, just ask... i REALLY need to communicate... 1 of the 3 essential tasks in a good soldier, and gamer... shoot, move, and COMMUNICATE! :(

First, allow me to welcome you to Major Geeks. Second, I don't mean to suggest anything condescending or negative, but have you checked to see if the mic is turned on? Many microphones have really small 'power' switches that are usually not labeled as to which position is on or off. Some microphones also require batteries; I have even seen headsets with mics that required the installation of 3 watch type batteries. Are you sure you have the mic plugged into the correct port? If you have a separate sound card (and I think you do if I read your post correctly) then the front headphone/mic ports on the PC are probably not hooked up. If you haven't already, plug the mic into the back directly into the sound card; it's usually a pink or red port. Try the mic on a stereo or a 2nd PC or something else just to be sure the mic is working. And maybe try another mic on your PC (you can get cheap ones for under $10 at just about any PC store or Radio Shack; I've even seen ultracheepo mics at the dollar/99cent store.).

    Good luck!

(I'm assuming you have checked every possible setting in Windows and in the Creative mixer and in the Creative control panel and made sure all volume settings and level settings were turned up, and nothing was muted. I'm also assuming you've gone to Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Voice tab > Test Hardware and run through all the tests for the mic and spkrs).

That is everything i have on my computer. I have played with those settings, and no sound registers... Also, there are 4 slots in the back of my computer, down in the lower half, which i am assuming is my sound card... 3 of the slots, i have plugged in for my microphone... there is a 4th, and its actually glowing with light, and its a red light... so im assuming thats my microphone...

the microphone itself, is a simply wire mic, with a ghetto receiver... but w/e... its obviously smarter than i am, cuz i can't get it to work...

i have so many slots on this computer, and i've tried A LOT of them.. differnt combos... so i don't know what to do...

still cannot get my microphone to work... been working on it for far too long...

so ok, i've gotten smarter though... atleast i know i have my headset plugged into my soundblaster x-fi slots, cuz i did a little bit of searchin, and thats all gravy... the only thing i don't know why, is why my mic isn't working...

i know this : its plugged into a red slot, and it has a red light coming out of it...

is it suppose to have a red light coming out? is it suppose to go into another slot?

and besides, im not even sure its a driver issue, i just posted in this part of the fourms, cuz it looked like it should be.... didn't know if i could put it elsewhere
