My Laptop is acting kind of weird, like taking longer then usual to start & loading programs, some months ago I had an issue with this PC about a virus & since then my laptop is not being the same...

There's anyway to reset my pc to fatory settings (or something closer) withou losing any of my files ? (you know like texts, pictures, music & videos)

Basicly I'm asking for a save way to restart my PC without losing my data...

    Thanks...

    Hi

What you will need to tell is is what Make and Model PC you have, if its a Dell, HP, Sony etc then many have restore CD/DVD or HDD Partitions, however these are destructive restores to factory settings and do not save your data, which is why its wise to save any important data to an alternative location.

The alternative locations can be another HDD, be that a portable HDD (this is my main method of backup and I use Western Digital Passport HDDs for this), you can use CD/DVD, but these may span many disks to cover all your data or you can use the "cloud" as a term that will become familiar in the next few years and Windows Skydrive is one area that offers 25GB of storage space.

Basically your best option is to save all your personal data to an alternative form of storage and then re-install Windows from be it the original CD/DVD or the Restore Partition then install all your applications again (make sure you have all the media and serial codes) and copy your personal data back.

AS the only form of non-destructive restore to eliminate the possability of any malware left is a known good Windows System Restore thats working and not malware infected and its unlikely you will have a good malware free partition knowing that your malware infection was some months ago.

You could run a dirty or repair install of Windows but malware may still survive as its files may not be removed by a repair install. This is instruction for XP repair http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm if you have another Windows version do please tell us.

    Thanks people...

    Great advice...

I already backed up my data in a portable hard drive & just restore my laptop to factory settings...
