Need help

I have a very old laptop i am trying to put a os system back on,Its a old compaq5280 laptop with 120 mhz and 48 ram,This i am doing this for a disabled old guy that wants to use it for email.Now the problem is some files are missing from windows 95 on it and it will not boot.I can not get the floppy to boot either.It does not have a cd rom but i have a external one but there are no drivers in the os to to see the cd rom.Is there any way i can transfer a os from my pc to the laptop.I am not a pc pro but know a little.Any help to this for this guy would be great.thanks
