I have started receiving text messages to my cell phone that are almost identical to the spam email I'm receiving on my computer. Instead of phone numbers, these texts are sent from email/web addresses. I use Adaware, Spyware Search & Destroy, Avira Anit-Virus, Spam Fighter, Super Anti-Spyware and Spyware Blaster. My scans are coming up clean. My email program is Outlook Express and my browser is Mozilla Firefox. I'm not sure if this an email security problem or an overall security problem. Can someone help please??

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Its very possible that either yours or a friends email address book ( especially if any store your phone no. in the address book ) has been subject to malware harvesting it, or a website you may have signed up to and you entering as part of contact details your phone number selling on those details ( the major sites dont but some unscrupulous retailers or sites might ), especially if they are mirroring each other, this doesnt sound as if its the cell phone spammers who have software to randomly generate and send out spam to multiple number.

But to make sure your PC is clean of malware please run the below, however as your number and email addres are in the hands of spammers now they will sell your details on if you ever reply to one of them, leading to more spam.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

Thanks for answering & the welcome. I agree--I don't think it's a cell phone problem. I am running the steps in the link you recommended. Let me ask you another question please - could someone I sent email to have malware spying on their address book? Is that what you were saying? I sent some email recently to someone with a hotmail account and that seems to be when the problem began.

Also, all I could find in the Rogue List that was installed on my PC was Weatherbug (which I removed), but it's been on my computer forever & never caused problems before. That's why I'm puzzled. My system appears to be clean and the only new thing I've done recently is sent email to the account I mentioned.

Anything is possible today, it sounds to me like someones address book has been targeted by some type of malware. As far as WeatherBug, no I don't think this is related at all. The only issues with WeatherBug is the adware it causes such as popups and advertising. It's more of an annoyance than a threat.

I would continue the steps in the READ ME and post the requested logs (MGLogs.zip) so we can check your system.

Had to call it quits last night before I could finish all the steps in Read Me First, but I'm almost there. Thanks for the help. I'll be back when I'm done, but so far my machine appears to be clean. I think you're right and it's someone else's malware problem that has now become mine.:major

I can't find anything in the scans, I've run, but I have to admit I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be looking for in the MG logs (blush). So, I'm attaching the logs to be on the safe side. I do not have a MGlogs.zip. All I have is a zip.exe, which can't be uploaded. I'm sending the GetUnKeytxt file since it seemed the one most useful. :confused

The file (MGLogs.zip) is created by running MGTools from the READ ME.
