Need motherboard for eMachines W2247

Anyone have suggestions for this? I have an old eMachines W2247 that I want to allow the kids to use (but will never be connected to the internet), but it needs a new motherboard. I have questions though. If I buy a replacement mobo, I can not use the restore disks that can with the machine, right? Would this also mean that I would have to buy an OS for it? What are my inexpensive options? See the specs below as copied from the eMachines website.

 

You will not be able to use your restore disks. That version of windows was activated using a BIOS identifier, so a new motherboard wouldn't allow that software to boot.

Do you have to buy an OS? No. You still have a license that came with that machine, so you could install Windows on it and legitimately use the product key on the COA.

As for a replacement motherboard: yuck... I don't know if you will be able to find a mobo with your socket available in retail stores.

What does COA stand for?
Can the copy of XP from this eMachines PC be loaded to another PC if this one is destroyed? If so, how?

A nice motherboard that should work just fine. You may want to get a little more RAM, though, if it's going to be running XP. 128 will run it, but it will sure be dang slow

 

I have swapped motherboards on XP machines with no problems. I was careful to get the exact same MB.

What was different about this?

Guess I'm not too familiar with XP restore disks.
