I'd be looking at a socket 939 if you're getting AMD.

It will give you much better upgrade options in the future.

    You are joking right?

With the Sempron, 512megs of PC2700 & on-board graphics, Battlefield 2 will not be worth trying. If it run good enough for you to play, it would surely look very bad. Now with that said.............................

Adding another 512megs of memory & a decent video card ( it does have an AGP slot ) I believe the game will run good enough to play. I could sit here & pick the machine apart & throw a ton of opinions at you, but I won't. ;)

yea...dude...i rly have no idea what kind of games u want to play but with taht set up you will not be playing much more than the original doom..if that...you cannot to even hope to get a good gaming machine for under about a 1000...at LEAST...this is a barebone's pc m8...integrated graphics???? come on...wtf is that...for games get at least a nvidia 6600...or radeon 9800...512 ram? what are you planning to do, word processing?...basically...if you want a good gaming computer be prepared to spend about a 1000, get another 512 stick of ram, get a radeon 9800, upgrade your harddrvie to at least 160 gb, power supply to 500watts...or at least 420watts...and an athlon sempron? get an amd64 939 pin cpu...like i said...gaming doesnt come cheap at all..look at my sig...and i paid about 1600 total for it...1145 originally and 1600 total w/ the x850 xt PE, 500w ultra x connect and whatnot...the BOTTOM LINE IS THIS: If you want to play any games that came out within the past...2-3 years...you've got some upgrading to do...

ps. and to the guy who said perfectly fine ill just assume and cross my fingers that was some weird stupid joke

As everyone has said, you could play the game, but it would look like crap with graphics turned all the way down. That pc would had been mid-low range 2-3 years ago, thus making it basically outdated by today's standards.

I think some of you are exagerrating a little too much.

Wont play games in the last 2-3 years?

Wont be playing much more than the original Doom?

It would have been a mid-low range computer 2-3 years ago?

    Come now, thats silly.

With a little upgrading that machine will cut it.

I ran Far Cry on an Athlon XP 2500+, 1gb of PC2700 DDR and an Ati 9700 pro.

Upgrade the ram, get a nice video card, you should be ok--for a budget machine.

The 512MB of RAM is fine, i played BF2 with 512MB for a while and then upgraded to 1gb and noticed NO difference. As for onboard vid. i failed to notice that, that would be ONE thing you would want to get... As for a Sempron, i run BF2 on an Athlon XP 2600.

Russianmaster, i will PRETEND like EVERYTHING in the above mentioned paragraph, is nonexistant.

I built a VERY NICE gaming machine for under $500!
You dont need THE TOP OF THE LINE video card!!! Everyone thinks that, YOU DONT! A 9600XT 128MB, 9800Pro/XT 128/256MB are fine. nVIDIA 6200 128MB and up are good. As for RAM, YOU DONT NEED 1GB!!! I REGRET purchasing an extra stick. I have 1GB of ram, but my computer BARELY uses 512MB while playing BF2 or DOOM3. I run off of an OC'd Athlon XP 2600+.

Don't try to TRAMPLE his hope of getting a decent budget computer into the ground. Mine was a budget build but I began upgrading as time went by and as i needed to. If you WASTE your money on new things every time they come out (EXTREMELY often) you wont have any money!

GET THE COMPUTER!!!! Buy a mid range graphics card, another stick of 512MB if you can afford it and your set for another year or two, then you'll have to upgrade again, as usual.

    You have to be joking.

I've played Far Cry and Half Life 2 on a Pentium III with a 64 MB GeForce 4 card, and they looked and played great.

As far as not being able to get a good gaming machine for under a thousand dollars, I could name half a dozen manufacturers who build great machines (suitable for gaming) for under that, and that's in Australian dollars.

There is nothing inherently wrong with that system, and as I stated, the only thing I would change is the CPU socket.

Socket A is on it's last legs. You would be far better off with a socket 939 AMD.

see i try to get the best so that i dont have to upgrade for 3 or 4 years at all...which if u get a cheap system comes out to about the same w/ the later upgrades

As you can see in my sig.....I don't have a "top of the line" computer. I was just pointing out that the game would look very bad & with the video robbing memory from everything else that'll be wanting it, something is gonna suffer. With no memory available, maps will take forever to load...................................................................so by the time you actually get into the game? Everybody done run off with all the rides. Of course this is just my opinion. I just hate to see folks buy something, but expecting a completely different thing & get burnt, when there's no need for it.

As you can see me and suesman have, extremely similar setups... I used to run 512MB of ram for the longest time then i upgraded to 1GB, but i dont really notice a difference...

My RAM is runnin at PC2900 speeds though....

A lot of you seem to be missing the point. It's a budget system.

As far as the integrated graphics, at least it's 128 MB, and it has an AGP slot so it can be upgraded.

I would rather have a motherboard with integrated graphics that one without.

At least it gives you something to use if your video card ever dies.

Exactly. The machine is a good deal & a little bit of upgrading it will run most game out right now, as it is, hmmm not so much. :D

Wow thanks for all ur replies, sorry i havent been on for a while, been busy. But ya, i have since come up with a custom build machine for virtually the same price, its got:

    AMD 64 1.8 Ghz
    1024 MB DDR RAM
(a good graphic card, possibly one cheap, open for suggestions :D )
    250 Gig HD
    8x DVD RW

So as you can see probably a better deal if i build myself, although frankly i am still lost on the graphic card issue, iv heard cards can be used to play BF2 aren't even on the compatability list, so i kinda confused

    Thx

Those video cards are previous generation.

I think it's always better to buy the latest model one can afford.

How much money do you have, and what will you be using the computer for, and is the video card AGP or PCI-X?

  21. xeuro

    xeuro Private E-2

Well i want it AGP, it will be used for gaming (waiting for call of duty 2); but im not a crazy gaming addict, so i dont need high graphics (low-medium is fine for me) and as for my price range, i would perfer around 50-70, but my absolute highest i can go is maybe 100

  22. Triaxx2

    Triaxx2 MajorGeek

I disagree that buying the best you can afford is a good idea. By staying a generation back, most of the bugs have been worked out, and you don't have to anxiously await the latest and greatest patch. Plus, by the time he needs a new card, the next generation up will be outdated as well.

  23. xeuro

    xeuro Private E-2

I see what u saying, makes alot of sense, but the only thing i need is a card good enough to run call of duty 2 (again i'm not a freak for high res, so it doesnt have to be the best card). Of course, anyone know what requirements call of duty 2 will have>

  24. Insomniac

Buying the best someone can afford doesn't mean top of the range.

What you are saying is to not to buy new or cutting-edge technology until it matures?

Anyway, this doesn't apply to this thread.

xeuro, you can find system requirements on Call Of Duty 2 HERE.

Don't take too much notice of "minimum requirements", as that doesn't mean the game is playable.

  25. xeuro

    xeuro Private E-2

oo ty for posting the requirements....i cringe when i see the prices of those graphic cards though, $ 120....but the ATI 9200 seems cheap, although it is in the minimum specs :/

Thats it....*does search for 'get paid to take our survey'*

  26. Insomniac

Insomniac Billy Ray Cyrus #1 Fan

    A 9200 is a very basic card.

There is nothing wrong with it, but don't expect it to play demanding 3D games.

You have put together a pretty good system so far. It would be a shame to bottleneck with a slow card.

If you cannot afford something like an nVidia 6600 GT, then maybe something like the earlier postings for a 9600 Pro.

Might be worth taking a look at the Buy, Sell & Trade section or save up a bit more.

ok, ill check it out :) , i'd just like to thank everyone for helping me so much (kinda long thread lol)

  28. Triaxx2

That was what I meant. In anycase, buying as powerful as possible sounds like a good idea, but unless you know of a game that's going to require it, you're just wasting money.

  29. xeuro

    xeuro Private E-2

ya i know what u are saying, but as long as the card i'm lookin at can support call of duty 2, i happy :)

I use that now and i can play Counter Strike Source on all high settings at 1024x768 with AA maxed and i get 150+ FPS running around and 50+ FPS in firefights.

    It is a wonderful card!

Roffle I can play Half Life 2 on my p3 550mhz with a 16mb voodoo3 vid card, you should be fine with that.
