How come scheduled tasks won't work unless I set up the password for log on?

I'm no expert on this, but I believe that this is for the user's own protection; in order to prevent malicious attempts to subvert security and mess with the user account specified scheduled tasks that you have set-up. When Windows executes a scheduled task, the Scheduled Task service first creates a new logon session for the task so that it can run under the authority of the user account specified when the task was created.

Google this exact phrase: "Logon Type Codes Revealed" (with quotation marks). When you get to this web page; scroll down to the section entitled "Logon Type 4 – Batch" for a brief explanation as to why scheduled tasks require the user to set up the password for log on.

Related Google Search phrases to use for more info about scheduled tasks.

    Good Luck!
