Need Prayers/Mojo...

Been a rough weekend. My wife has been having thryroid issues for quite a long time now. Doc's have been regulating it with meds for years. She had a biopsy done 2 weeks ago. Friday we recieved a letter say that there is a great probablity for malignancy. So she is scheduled for surgery on the 8th. We won't know a ton until they get in there and remove her thyroid. Docs tell us that if its bad, she gets radioactive dye to kill off all the cells so it limits the chance of her thyroid growing back. Bummer is she can't be around the kids for at least a week afterwards. I have a 4yr old and a 2yr old son. They won't take this to well....

After aranging family to help out after the surgery, everyone lives quite a ways away, I got a call late yesterday that my grandmother passed away. Which is a blessing. She hasn't recognized anyone for a while, so this is for the best. Unfortunately I cannot fly back east to attend the funeral with my brother and parents due to my above situation. Everyone understands but it still making me feel like shit.

So, now that I have babbled enough I am asking for whatever prayers/mojo/positive vibes you can send my way. Just the waiting for the surgery is killing me.

    Thanks .

    G.T. R.I.P February 4, 2007. You will be missed.

Prayers are a given. You've got 'em.

And DON'T feel bad about the conflict of interest. You are where you MUST be; anything else would be abandoning your primary responsibility. And the others know it. It is sad that you must miss your grandmother's funeral, but you have to do what you have to do. The other family members will understand.

    Hang in there.

Blues, I will be praying for you and your wife as well as the rest of the family. Remember that your wife and children need you right now and you can catch up with the rest of the family later to help you out with the mourning of the passing of your grandmother. All will turn out for the best I'm sure.

Oh Randy...I am so sorry. Your grandmother would fully understand and expect you to be there with Theresa right now...she and the boys NEED you. You can say your good buys to your gramma in your own way and she will know how much you love her and wanted to be there to personally say good bye.

You, Theresa and the boys have all the prayers I can send your way and I know Chris will chime in as soon as he gets home. My grandmother had to have her thyroid removed roughly 40 years ago or more and other than needing to take synthroid for the rest of her life (as I do too!) she was fine. Technology is so much more advanced than it was in her day..although a very scary time ahead of you you have modern technology and lots of prayers on your side!

Love & Hugs to you and Theresa!

Randy, our prayers are definitely with you. This is the time of year or something, eh? Well, as GT said, you're where you have to be. You've got your priorities in order, and no one could possibly fault you for not being able to make it to your Grandmother's funeral. Doesn't make it any easier for you, as I'm sure you just wish you could be there.

Since everyone is going out to the funeral, are you going to be able to have the help you need with the kids? Will they be back by the time you need them? Got any good friends who can help babysit?

Thinking ahead with you, you might want to make some meals that can be frozen and then recooked later, to take that pressure off you during the surgery and recovery time. Also, if you don't have a lock on your bedroom door, you might want to install one to keep the kids out while your wife is recovering. I know that would be especially hard on my kids knowing that Mom is right there, but they can't see her.

I hope everything works out ok for you guys. These times are never easy, but I know it really helped me to know that my friends were praying for me, and supporting me however they could. If there is anything we could do, let us know.

I am so sorry to hear that you have been hit with so much in such a short period of time.

A husband should be nowhere other than beside his wife in her time of need and I am sure the rest of your family will understand that.

As some encouragement, Thyroid malignancies have a very good prognosis now. Greater than 95% of cases are curable with surgery and treatment. I am sure everything will be ok.

    My prayers are with you.

    Hi, Bluesman.

Sorry to hear about your wife. It will all work out for her.

I've had Thyroid cancer twice in my life, so if you have any questions I might be able to answer them.

I first had it when I was 15 and again when I was 23. I'm 24 now and feel good.

Some things I can tell you right now are the following:

Some people who take Synthroid experience headaches as a sideffect when taking it. I prefer the none-generic brand. I think it's called Eltrocyn or Levothyrocin. I don't have it in front of my right now.

Synthroid makes my skin very oily and I still get acne. It's not fare.

Mood swings are very common after Thyroid surgery. Your hormones are out of wack!

My prayers are with you and your family.

    Hi Bluesman,

I'm very sorry to hear about your wife's condition. My thoughts and good wishes are with you.

I'm sure it's among the least of your concerns right now, but I think a couple of years back when I first came to this site I suggested you put together a screensaver with pics of your guitars. Wonder if you ever got around to doing that?

I hope you have friends close by you can depend on. It's important, I think, in such tough times to be able to draw some comfort and strength from others and not let yourself get too worn down with care and worry.

Hang in there. We'll be here for you also. Best wishes.

Real sorry to hear of more bad news in the family, Randy.:( As has been said a few times in this thread, your primary duty of care is with your wife and kids, so try not to beat yourself up over it. Though it's not an easy thing to do I'll admit.

Its times like these that you realize just how blessed we are with our true friends and strong family.

You and your family have my thoughts, prayers and sincere best wishes in these difficult times.

Blessings and mojo, etc. to all.

Thanks everyone , its much appreciated. :)

@Eezak - havent' done that yet lol. I cannot wait to post a pic of my current project. Found a scrap peice of maple for the top, from what I could see it had a bit of figure to it. Got the cap glued on the one peice alder body, ran it thru the planer to level it out before routing, and BAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is so much figure in that top I almost wet my pants. I should have some pics by end of next week...I hope anyway. It won't be painted or anything, or maybe it will, I dunno. Depends on how all my other stuff goes. Got a lot of work to get done soon.

The new guitar you're working on sounds great ...uh, so to speak! Not sure what you mean by "figure" -- some sort of interesting naturally occuring pattern in the wood that you like?

At any rate, I think the guitar screen saver is a mighty fine idea and there's surely enough talent around here that you could find some help putting the thing together and polishing it if you don't have the needed software/photo-editing/programming skills.

Hey, on a related note...just wonder if you're familiar with a great instrument and music shop here in my home town? Just posted some info about it earlier here in a thread started by a beginning guitarist. It's called Elderly Instruments and you've likely heard of them as they do quite a bit of catalog business. But if not, you might enjoy browsing around their website when you have a few minutes to spare:

    http://www.elderly.com/

They sell a wide variety of stringed instruments....several dozen brands of guitars alone as well as having a large stock of used instruements and some one-of-a-kind items. Lots of music and technique books and videos also along with a fine selection of CD's you can't find in your typical mall store -- blues, bluegrass, country, folk, ethinic/international music. The store is in the old Odd Fellows Hall in north Lansing and if you're ever up this way I suspect you'd enjoy stopping in and having a look around. Heck, if you do ever get the guitar screensaver idea worked out and done it might be worth contacting Elderly Instruments to see if they'd be interested in putting it in their catalog. For that matter if you need another outlet to sell your own guitars you might want to contact them about that also. But I suspect most of your stuff is already spoken for before it's even finished?

Good that you have plenty of work to keep you busy. If you're just sitting around you can drive yourself nuts with worrying about stuff you can't do anything about. So do your best to take care of your wife and children, but don't neglect to take care of yourself also. Play some music, work on your new guitar and do whatever it is you like to do to relax. And we'll all try to get our mojo working, our prayers rising, and our good thoughts moving in your direction.
