I've tried to follow the directions from the homepage"Spyware Tools, Hijackthis 1.99.1" to remove this nasty but have had a number of problems. Downloaded all the programs from "Basic Spyware Trojan And Virus Removal Tutoral" but couldn't do the online scan at Bitdefender keep getting the message "Internet Explorer 4+ required for online scanner to work". I have IN6 but can't get online with it so have switched to Mozilla firefox. Can't do the RavAnivirus scan because the download area is closed (something to do with Microsoft purchasing the company) Can't disable System Restore because when i go to properties of MyComputer there isn't a tap for that action (only have 6 tabs)I'm using XP Pro. Also can't reboot in safe mode with networking or safemode get error message "Safe mode error stop:OXOOOOOOOA (OXF8A5B354,0XOOOOFF,OXOOOOOOO1,OX8O5OFD7F)
I did a Hijackthis scan (log file attached). Norton removed a large number of threats appox 47 except for: backup.exe, cls.exe, ipkhbccl.dll, reboot.exe, restore.exe, start.exe, winwqmzq32.dll I used instrucitons from microsoft site for removing the HaxDoor virus which initially made a diference but things are back to the way they where. I've already run Adaware SE, Spybot search and destroy, Spysubtract and a couple of others plus Window Reg' Pro which remove a bunch of stuff but my machine is still pretty much screwed can you guys offer any help. Thanks

Please follow standard cleanup procedures as given below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread SpySheriff (aka SpywareNo) Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above and you still have a problem, make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps below:

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Download HijackThis 1.99.1

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the ZIP file as your backups will not be safely stored.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gifBefore running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gifRun HijackThis and save your log file.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next post. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post as it will be removed).

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gifNeed help with HJT? See this thread: NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

I've tried to follow the tutorial as close as possible and was able to download all the tools and updates however the online scan were a problem. Bitdefender loads to a page informing you that you need to have IE4+ but there does not seem to be a way to navigate to the online scan from that page and I was unable to find it by navigate the site. The RavAntivirus site doesn't seem to do online scan anymore because or if it does it is not easy to find as following the steps leads to a download page which is closed. Perhaps i'm not following the steps correctly but i've tried a number of times from different computers with the same results. I haven't followed any of the steps in the tutorial past the online scans until I could get further direction from someone who has more knowledge about the process.

Download the following two files, create a folder on your desktop, call it TSC. Save these 2 files there!

    Sysclean Package

    Pattern.zip

Once you have these downloaded into the folder you just created, REBOOT INTO SAFE MODE!

Once in Safe Mode double click the file sysclean.com. When the system cleaner loads, click SCAN to start the scanner. After you complete the scan reboot and attach a fresh HJT log.

    Please download: http://www.atribune.org/downloads/HSFix.zip

Extract the tool from the ZIP File to a folder you can easily find (preferably in its own folder - like c:\HSFix). Then follow the procedure below:

Boot to Safe Mode open the HSFix Tool folder and DoubleClick hsfix.bat and let it run. It will produce a log here - C:\hslog.txt

Boot back to normal mode and post the hslog.txt file as an attachment along with a fresh HJT log.

    A0032859.dll Backdoor Trogan
    A0043970.dll Backdoor Trogan
    A0087113.dll Backdoor Trogan

    1) Download TrojanHunter

    2) Install TrojanHunter, At the end of the install setup will prompt you to update definitions. Please do so!

    3) Once installed and updated, select drive C:\ and do a Full Scan. Remove all found infections.

After you complete the above, reboot and attach a fresh HJT log.

    I'm attaching a new HJT log file but also want to mention a couple of things that have changed. After installing SP2, everytime the system started up Norton and Bitdefender would detect a huge number of files including but not limited to;
    C:\windows\temp\tmp226.tmp ( would number from 226 - 239)
    C:\windows\temp\tmp1ea.tmp
    C:\windows\temp\tmp25a.tmp (including b-f)
    C:\windows\system32\rdsndin.exe
    C:\windows\system32\csbzn.exe
    C:\windows\wmplayer.exe

    There seemed to be close to a hundred of these .tmp files. I descided to try Avast since the other anitspyware programs weren't doing much. Left it running overnight a it only found one suspicious file in the Sysclean folder. I have disconnected the computer from the web because I thought that might give a better chance to stop this stuff so Avast couldn't delete the file. I had to restart the system and at startup, before windows had loaded Avast started a scan, if found multipile instances of the following programs/viruses;
    C:\systemvolume information\restore win32:adan-078
    C:\systemvolume information\restore win32:adan-094
    C:\systemvolume information\restore win32:Tronan-gen
    C:\systemvolume information\restore win32:Vidlo-H
    C:\systemvolume information\restore win32:VBS:Redlof
as well as two of the .exe files Norton and Bitdefender had found
    C:\windows\system32\rdsndin.exe
    C:\windows\system32\csbzn.exe
I deleted everyone of them even the two .exe files which Avast warned was in the Windows folder.
    The Trojan Hunter program only found two suspect files;
    Moonlinght MPEG-2 Encoder Std 3.2.1.exe
Moonlight XMuxer Pro 1.0 pre-release .exe
The first of these two I had purchase and was reluctant to delete so wanted your opinion on that as well as how to handle all those .tmp files. Sorry for the avalance of info, thanks again for your patience.
Heres an update to the update, I began writing this on a laptop while the other machine was rebooting to do the HJT scan, when it rebooted none of the .tmp file detections from Bitdefender or Nortan appeared, also I can finally access the Windows Sercurity Center but cannot seem to access the firewall settings. What do you think? i'm pretty confused!!

Before we start a fix for your problems, you need to uninstall some antivirus programs. You only need to run ONE because running more will cause conflicts on your computer. Pick one and uninstall the other, afterwards reboot and procede with the below.

Download this trial version of Ewido Security Suite

    • Install ewido security suite
    • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
    • The program will have a window come up. One of the buttons on the left is to Update. Click the Update button.and then Start the Update. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
    • After it completes the update, click the Scanner button

Now exit Ewido. Now print the below instructions or save them locally because I want you do have no browsers opened and also have no connection to the internet (unplug your cable) while doing the below.

Okay, reboot into safe mode and follow the steps below. (If you have any problems at all trying to get into safe mode to complete these steps, just run them in normal boot mode and make sure you tell me when you come back.)

Open up Ewido and do the following:

    • Click on Scanner
    • Then click Settings
    • Under What to Scan? Select Scan every file
    • Then click OK
    • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will start.
    • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files that are infected. Leave the defaults selections (to Remove and backup) and click OK. To save yourself some time, you can select Perform action with all infections and then click OK. With the option to scan every file, a lot of cookies will be removed.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report

    • Click Save report
    • Save the report to your desktop or anyplace you will be able to find it to upload here.
Reboot into normal mode and reconnect to the internet.

Come back here and post the Ewido Scan Report along with a fresh HJT log.

You still have not address the Antivirus issue I previously requested. You need to pick ONE antivirus program and uninstall the others. Running more than one antivirus will cause conflicts on your computer.

After you have removed all but ONE reboot and attach a fresh HJT log.

I meant to ask you for some clarification on that I realise i've installed a lot of anti-spy software since this problem began so i'm not exactly sure which are anit-virus and which are anti-spy. Other than Norton are Bitdefender and Avast the anit-virus programs youre referring to?

    You have three AVs.
    - Avast
    - BitDefender
    - Symantec

Choose the one you prefer and uninstall the other two.

sorry for the delay I had finals and had to put this aside. I couldn't uninstall Norton it's actually an expired trial which doesn't work so I uninstalled Avast leavign Bitdefender. Here is the most recent HJT log.

Why not? Even trials should must have uninstalls. Since it is expired it does you no good and it is slowing your system down and could cause conflicts with BitDefender.

Did you looking in Add/Remove programs to see if there is an uninstall?
If that does not work, see the below it may be of use:

    Norton Removal Tool (SymNRT)

You should also have HijackThis fix the below lines (do not click fix until all browsers are closed):

You still have one item left over from Symantec. The below service:

    O23 - Service: Symantec Core LC - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe

We can fix his as follows:

Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'.

On the page that opens, scroll down to Symantec Core LC ... right click the entry, select 'Properties' and press 'Stop Service'. When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the 'Start-up Type' to 'Disabled'. Press 'OK' until you get back to Windows.

Next, run HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the "None of the above, just start the program" button at the bottom of the choices. At the lower right, click on the 'Config" button, and then the Misc tools' button ... select 'Delete an NT Service" ... copy/paste the following into the box that opens, and press "OK":

    Symantec Core LC

Now exit HJT and reboot if it asks you to do so. After reboot, check to see if the O23 line is now gone.

Then delete this folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared

After getting this resolve, it is time for you to work thru the steps in the below:

How to Protect yourself from malware!

HJT could not delete the Symatec Core LC program, a warning comes up saying it is system critical and can not be deleted.

You were right it was gone, I uninstalled Bitdefender and installed Avast Home edition (since it was free) and when avast did a boot scan it found a huge number of infected files, mostly in the System Restore folder, and it deleted them all but I was surpriced that they were still there, I followed all the other steps without incident is it worth posting another HJT log? If not I want to thank you for all the help and patience that you have given me, many people told me to re-install my OS to solve this problem but I've learned a huge amount from this so thanks again. Can I donate some funds to your operation? I feel its the least I can do for all the work you guys do for people like me.

It should not have found anything in System Restore. The first step of the READ ME is to disable system restore which should remove all restore points. That is why we do that (because restore points may be infected). Is your System Restore still disabled?

We don't accept donations but you can look at the MG's apparel in the below and buy something if you like. Also send your friends here.

It may not have been as at one time I was having trouble accessing system restore I have turned it off now. I guess that means you cannot do a system restore in event of a problem, how is that handled?

  36. chaslang

chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

Now that you have turned it off! I would turn it back on after a reboot. That alone should be enough to clear all system restore points and you should not be finding any infected files located in system restore with your AV afterwards.

The key is that once you are infected, you have no idea what restore points contain what. So if you disable SR and then clean your PC and only after cleaning enable SR.
