Need software suggestions for computer repair business.

I am starting my own home based computer repair business and I am in need of purchasing software. I know that I am unable to use the free versions of such programs as AVG, Ad-Aware SE, or Spybot S & D. I need full diagnostic programs, virus removal programs, adware and spyware removal programs, and basically any other programs that anyone wants to suggest for doing computer repair. My brother has worked in the same field for a number of years with a N.London firm. If you are looking for software for customer's computers then it depends on how the computer will be used by your customer. e.g. Home or business, children or no children, how secure/intrusive do you want it?.

For your purposes, you need a top notch back up progamme above all else. You must be able to take a copy and restore any data the customer requires unless your customer gives you the OK, preferably in writing, to blitz the HD. To this end I recommend Acronis. I used to use Norton Ghost, but I find their latest version poor.

With regard to Firewall, AV, anti-spyware and the like, most of the retail versions of the programmes you mentioned, are adequate enough. AVG 7 Full Suite works fine for me, as does McAfee 2007. I don't touch anything by Norton (Apart from Ghost) and use several freebies as well. Spybot S & D and ScanSpyware rip out most malware. (Forget the advertising blurb - no one programme does it all and they shurely ain't compatible with all other programmes).

The biggest part of setting up such a business is to find out what the customer needs and convincing him that what he wants is not necesssarily what he needs.

Remember This: The customer is always right. Brainless, ill-informed, pig-headed, more money than sense, waste of space but NEVER WRONG.

Of course you would have to do some research and/or contact the vendors personally, chances are a lot of them may not have the same policy as Comodo.

If you can use freeware for your business, it will keep the cost down for the consumer, thus making your business more competitive
