need some help please

Our local hockey team has changed their name to the Thunder which is represented by a train. Or section of fans have been tagged with developing a change for when we score that is train related. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Like a goal song/sound? I suppose a train whistle would be a given...maybe the chug-chug noise (does that make sense? train rolling down the track) starting slow and building, and then a whistle? Huge hiss of steam, like the engine just blew pressure?

Wait...fan section. Sorry, I was thinking like I was in the booth for your games like I am for mine. LOL All of you could get wooden train whistles and blow them, that'd be good and obnoxious. That's all I've got, my brain is mush.

Out of curiosity, what league? And who did they used to be? I work for the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL).

 

Ok folks, so we have decided to cheer "you got railed" when our team scores.

Sgt_Tibbs, we are in the SPHL. The last 2 years we were the Bloomington Blaze of the CHL and before that we were Bloomington Prairie Thunder.

 

I like it! And now I feel a little dumb for not being able to think outside the box. :-o

Nice logo! And now your CHL comment from t'other thread makes even more sense to me. Huh, I didn't know Peoria changed leagues, but that explains why we don't play them any more. We had some huge shifts in teams around the league since last year.

 

Yep, the Rivs stepped down 2 levels after they lost their affiliation with the Blues last spring and almost had to close the club. Bruce Sauers stepped up once again and not only bought the Rivs but also the then defunct Bloomington Blaze (whom the owner had abandoned high and dry). Bloomington could not keep the Blaze name due to legal difficulties with the CHL so they re-branded to the Bloomington Thunder and adopted the train motif. Both clubs were admitted to the SPHL and now constitute the northern branch of that league (and a built-in rivalry). It was a step down one level for the Thunder and two steps down for the Rivs and as such both squads have lost a lot of support from the locals.

Hopefully this will let us rebuild our fan base and we can eventually climb out of the SPHL and get with ECHL or AHL in the not so distant future. The ownership is counting on the rivalry to generate public interest and have stepped up the exposure level as well.

The big question this year is what will happen with the cash strapped CHL? There are lot's of rumors flying around about both them and the FHL as well. If they both dissolve where will their teams fit into the picture? Time will tell........

Tibbs and Wraith, we had hockey down here for a while - I caught a couple of Pee Dee Pride (ECHL) games a few years ago. The sport will never survive here, though - too many rednecks in the area. :confused

 

Tried that Caliban, unfortunately it did not seem to go over well. Hockey fans can be fickle at times. LOL
