I just upgraped my notebook computer from Windows 2000 to Windows XP. Now my wireless card isn't working. It was working fine before. In the Device Manager it shows it under the network adapters with an red x. When I try to reinstall it a error message comes up and says: An error occurred during the installatio of the device. The name is already in use as either a service name or a service display name. And if I try to uninstall it a error comes up that says: Failed to uninstall the device. the device may be required to boot up the computer. Does any one have any suggestions on how to correct this? If it matters I have a CF37 tough book and the wireless card is a Encore Electronics 802.11g Wireless LAN PC Card.. Thanks

First right click on the red X and choose 'enable'. Usually the red X means the device has been disabled. If the device enables w/o errors, try going online. If so, you're done! If not, reboot in safe mode (press F8 repeatedly upon restarting the PC 'til you get a boot options menu). You should be able to go into Device Manager and right click and uninstall. Then go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and remove any software related to the WLAN card. Shut down the PC. Remove the WLAN card and reboot without the card installed in Normal mode. Just for fun, you might want to run CCleaner to clean any junk files and Dial-A-Fix to correct any .dll problems. Both are free downloads from Major Geeks. Now reboot in normal mode again, still with the card removed. Now follow the WLAN install instructions and you should be in business!
