I spent about 3½ hours tonight working on my girlfriend's computer. I worked through everything in the malware removal guide except for BitDefender because it would never finish loading in safe mode.
Also, I forgot to send myself the CounterSpy and Panda ActiveScan logs. So all I have is Runkeys, newfiles, and HJT.

I was able to get rid of a lot of problems, but her computer is still getting random pop-ups. I installed AVG Free for them, Firefox, as well as Ad-Aware. I am going to get them a firewall installed tomorrow.

Hopefully you can help me out with getting rid of the pop-ups with the logs that I am able to provide.

Thanks for all of your help. You guys helped me disinfect my computer about a half a year ago. You guys are awesome!

Your ShowNew and GetRunKeys logs are in a format that is useless to me.

    Download this file - Combofix.exe
    2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Attach this log to your next reply

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\sosi42.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\owinsndt.exe
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\s?stem32\r?ndll.exe
    C:\Program Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2007

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

Please attach new logs in the proper format:
    GetRun
    ShowNew
    HJT

I'm not really sure why the ShowNew and GetRunKeys logs look like that. I just ran them normally and that is what happened. If you open them up in WordPad instead of Notepad they display correctly... but otherwise I don't know how to get them to format correctly in NotePad by default.

Any idea how I can get the logs to write in the correct format?

Thanks for all of your help.

    Please use add/remove to uninstall:
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    Outerinfo

Please copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

    Have you run ComboFix?

Please do the above and then attach fresh logs.

I haven't done anything since I first posted last night. I still need to run and fix using HJT. The computer is at my girlfriend's house. I'll be over there in about 2 hours then we'll see what happens.

Thanks for your guidance thus far.

Okay all done. The pop-ups seem to be gone but as you can see from the HJT log I was unable to delete a couple of entries.

    Code:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {23BDC5B4-82F0-4E38-BAEA-0BDD4FC9E0F2} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtutr.dll
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8A61098D-612B-4EF2-943D-64E920684061} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtuuvww.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: vtutr - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtutr.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: vtuuvww - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\vtuuvww.dll
Still remain. Every time I try to delete them using HJT they don't go away...

Anyway... on the front end, everything seems to be clean.

    * Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    * Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:

    * Now click the 'Done' button.
    * Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    * You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt

Please copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

    Please install: Java Runtime 6

Your logs look clean. You may uninstall any programs we had you download (including CounterSpy, etc).

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
    * Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix you can delete the ComboFix.exe file and associated C:\combofix.txt log that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    5. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    7. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    8. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
    * go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
    * Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
