Need some logs checked.

    I have my sister-in-laws computer. When I try to get on the internet with firefox, I get a message that its already running but its not. And there was an error code about Microsoft Security Essentials unable to update. Thanks James

    Not finding much. Let's do this:

    Run this: Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.


    ownload The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
    See the download links under this icon http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MGDownloadLoc.gif
    Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop.

    1. Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    2. Click OK at the warning to continue to use The Avenger
    3. Do not change any of the check box options!
    4. Shut down your protection software now to avoid possible conflicts.
    5. Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of The Avenger
    6. Now click the http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/9159/executeavenger.jpg button
    7. Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    8. Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when The Avenger finishes running.
    9. Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    10. A log file from The Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will pop-up for you to view when you login after reboot.
    11. Attach this log to your next message. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

    Now let's get rid of some of the junkware on your system:

    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

    Now:
    Run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).Make sure that you watch for the license agreement for TrendMicro HijackThis and click on the Accept button TWICE to accept ( yes twice ).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hey Tim, I was not able to open The Avenger(404 error)and Download locations doesnt work. On the bright side I did get the other two to work. And firefox is still a no go.

    Download OTL to your desktop.


    Double-click OTL.exe to start the program.
    • Copy and Paste the following code into the Custom Scans/Fixes textbox. Do not include the word Code

    • Then click the Run Fix button at the top.
    • Click the OK button.
    • OTL may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot. Just close notepad and attach this log form OTL to your next message.
    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hey, I think I messed on the OTL. I got it to run but when the computer rebooted It had two windows up for the note pad. I hit cancel on the first and both went away. I cant find the OTL log.:-o

    I am not finding any malware in your logs so you need to tell me what issues you may still have.

    Still have an issue with firefox. I try to log on with firefox the computer tells me it is already running,but not responding. I have been using IE to download and run the scans.
    I have uninstalled firefox and reinstalled it, but still get the same message.
    Also trying to copy her pics to a CD is not working.
    I did get The Avenger to scan.

    We are going to be uninstalling your old version of FireFox and installing the new version. So do the below to save bookmarks:
    • Run FireFox and click Bookmarks.
    • Then select Organize Bootmarks.
    • Then on the next window click File and then select Export. Save the bookmarks.html file to your Desktop for later use in importing.
    Now download and save the installer for the current version of FireFox but DO NOT install it yet. Get it here: Mozilla Firefox 15.0.1 Final

    You will need exit FireFox now and use Internet Explorer to continue with the below until we reinstall FireFox.

    Start by uninstalling FireFox and then reboot. Do not skip the reboot.
    After reboot, delete the below folders:
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    C:\documents and settings\UserAccount\Application Data\Mozilla

    where UserAccount is the actual user account name being used.

    Now reinstall FireFox from the file previously downloaded.
    Import your bookmarks file. (similar process to exporting).

    Hey,Tim. That worked. Firefox is up and running. Trying to get the pic copied off the harddrive.

    Good to know.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 4 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
      related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link
