I've been trying just about everything, Comodo, Online Armor, PC Tools fireware plus, Zone Alarm a long time ago and my favorite before I found out it wasn't supported anymore was Agnitum Outpost. Anyone have anything different they like? My OS is XP and Avast is my anti virus. I also have Spyshelter.

i've used ZA in the past, it's ok. I didn't notice anything special about it. i just use the windows firewall nowadays, light-weight, and free, and not overbearing like mcaffee or pc tools imo.

Thanks for the response, I've often read that windows firewall is OK if you don't tread into dangerous territory. I don't BTW but also have read that a third party firewall is a must. I'm like you though, I don't like an overbearing firewall either.

I'm running an old version of ZA on 2 XP computers and 2 Win 2K computers.
I run XP's built in firewall on one XP computer.
I run ZA 4.5.594 (pre-bloat and before the company was sold to Checkpoint).
All the old versions can be downloaded from
    http://www.oldversion.com/ZoneAlarm.html

I prefer, on some computers, both an inbound and outbound firewall.

Hi ! I run Avira free, Online Armor firewall free, and Malwarebytes in real time. I run XP3. I've never had a virus. I like a 3 tiered protection solution. It's always worked well for me! I also use WOT and No-Script.;) I have SpywareBlaster free for IE8, but firefox is my default browser.

I'm also using Windows XP SP3 with Avast 6.0.1125.
For about a year now I've been using PC Tools Firewall Plus 7 and it has worked well.

You may want to look at the firewall test results at matousec.com.
PC Tools Firewall Plus is no longer listed, but the full security package is in second place after Comodo.

This appears to be a stand alone program with multiple protection? Is it or can it be ran with an anti virus like Avast?

    Who is iain.t?

I personally would not try to mix anti virus protection because of the obvious potential for conflict with 2 programs trying to do the same job.

I suppose you could disable comodo's av but how would the firewall treat avast...especially with sandboxing?

I like it because it does the lot and gives you 60 free geek assist, as I've just changed my mobo and ram and have a dying graphic card from overclocking for 18 month's...:-D

So I feel it's one or the other, but you could pm iain.t as it's his fav and he is a very helpful guy, k?

    Hope this helped :)
