I'm the in-house make-shift techie at a small newspaper (no, I'm not getting paid enough for this). I need to upgrade one of the older machines in the office to handle the new software we're getting. I need some pointers on installing RAM on a:

    Gateway E-2000
    Win XP Pro
    1/80 Gig Intel Celeron
    8k cache
    128k 2nd cache
30Gig Maxtor HD (8.85Gig free space)
    126MB installed memory
    slot 'J6GI' is empty
    slot 'J6G2' has 128MB

What do I need to look for in RAM to make this thing move faster with the new software/Win updates that are to come? Thanks sooooo much in advance!

Your PC has PC2100 ram according to what I looked up.

Throw the 128 meg chip away and purchase either

    2 - 256 meg
    2 - 512 meg

128 megs you have isnt enough to boot XP really, so 2 -512 meg chips is a best option.

60 or 100 dollars depending on your choice.
