Need to make a VM from an offline Windows 2000 Professional SP4 disk

Hi all,
I need to make a VM from an offline Windows 2000 Professional SP4 disk.
The hardware is kaput, but the disk is fine.
I don't mind which VM....Virtualbox, or VMWare, or other....

Any thoughts as to how I can do this?
Urgently need to do this for a client.

Disk2vhd it does not run on Win2k but you can make a drive image for virtual systems.

Depending on which format for the drive image you choose, decides which VM you can run. VHD most common.

Very kind of you to post all that.
I understand - but I have heard that 2k needs a lot of tweaking when VMing.
For instance, you often get bluescreens, you have to change some .sys files etc....

[Yes I could get the data off but what I need for the client is a strange setup between Lotus 1-2-3 5.01 and Word 2000 and he has hundreds of Lotus sheets which interact with his Word templates and whatever I charge him to to VM it is far less than he'd spend converting all his links to Excel and Word. Thus I need to boot the system in its current state]

 

Right, so slave the drive in another system (don't boot it) and make a VHD image, that way if/when it freaks out over the hardware changes you don't ruin the good system on the drive.

Yes 2k will most likely freak out, if it does I'd see if it will boot into safe mode, or do a 'windows over windows' install in the VM. If that fails..IDK.
