hmmmm i dont know what someone can do about that but if he dont want them in his yard spraying his doors and stuff thin he har a right to do it. but me on the other hand i would not have to worry about that because i live in the middle of nowhere so i dont have to worry about it so out 10cats and 5 dogs run free with no worries;)

How many cats do you have? And do they dig up his garden or crap in his yard or something ?

Seems to me finding out why he is mad at the cats might lead to a better solution ( offering to clean up after them, put bells on them so the don't kill birds, etc.). I'd try to keep things on friendly terms unless he is just a big jerk. We have a neighbor with 11 cats that crap all over, get in our garage, kill the birds that used to come to my birdfeeder, and peed on my car tires.
I talked to her about and was told to mind my own business. So i got about 8 other neighbors to go over and talk to her together, and the problem was resolved.

Check your local laws. In most places trapping without a license is still illegal and very regulated. Also check to see what the laws on cat ownership are as you may in fact be violating some yourself. Then after you have found out where you stand legally, confront him with it.

Good point. Oddly enough, my thought was to sit outside, since I am frequently out late, with my handguns so I can see the look on his face when my laser sight shines in his eye. I really need to try yoga.

Excellent advice Wraith. The laws can bite both ways, and it's always better to figure out exactly where you stand first. Although rather than "confront" him, I'd recommend trying to talk to him on a friendly basis first, although that might not work. Better a negotiated peace than two armed camps if it can be worked out amicably.

@ ACE: NINE cats?!?! Well, you certainly won't ever have any mouse problems in the house.

@ MA: Yep, yoga might help. I prefer the Danon Straberry Yoga myself. ;)

Bwahahahaha!!! I wanna see that picture too! :D

I agree with Wraith and GT. Also, it could very well be that the trap is not aimed at catching your cat, but at a neighbor's cat who is more destructive, but yours was just the one who got caught (cat peer pressure ;) ). Go easy on your neighbor, maybe he's allergic to cats, and has just gotten to his wits end over this. Obviously it would have been better for him to talk to you and the other cat owners, but unfortunately, we've become a society of bad communicators. Don't make an enemy of your neighbor if you can help it.

At least your neighbor is being humane about it and turning them over to the pound. He could shoot em with a pellet gun or poison em. I can't stand when a neighbor's cat is hanging out at my house or walking over my Truck. He's obviously fed up with them to take it to this level.

Suggestion: Keep YOUR pets on YOUR property.

Revenge for what? Sounds like he within his rights and tired of the neighbors cats!

We're only getting one side of the story, its possible he has tried to talk to someone. Regardless ACE should not "trash the cage" or seek any other revenge, he'd on top of the suspect list and is heading to Boot Camp soon. If this guy is trapping them he may have cameras set up too.

I worked for an animal shelter a few years ago, in Michigan an unleashed cat/dog is considered to be breaking the law, we actually supplied residents with cages to trap cats. Letting your cats outside causes some serious problems, especially with kitten over population and diseased animals.

During the summer there were hundreds of people I wanted to choke because they let their cats outside then drop the kittens off at the shelter, half of them diseased from, and guess what happend to 70% of those? PTS because we didnt want to get the healthy kittens sick that had a chance of being adopted, which only a percentage were. We would literaly get a few hundred kittens in a week during breeding season and we were a pretty nice shelter, most shelters have 1/4th of the cages/cleaning materials and medicine we did.

Next on the list is the danger to the animals for being outside, most owners diagree with this but just because your cat enjoys being outside doesnt mean its healthy, these arent wild animals they are domesticated cats in a city, I cant tell you how many times my stomach turned from seeing a cats insides hanging out because it was hit by a car, or seeing a cats bone structure because it dehydrated on a hot summer day, was brought to us for help as the owners or founders didnt realize the animal was half dead.

My grandmother being a prime example of this, she let her cats outside all the time, I never cared until I worked at the shelter. Her last male cat never had any problems as a kitten, but once outside and breeding it would come inside and spray, even after getting fixed. It never did this until allowed outside, therefore she kept him outside all the time, he would often come back with injuries/bleeding and ticks. He ended up at the shelter....she got another cat, ive throughly made sure she did not let it out and have yelled at her the few times it did get out.

Now I dont know about other states laws but I throughly belive in michigan animal laws after working for a shelter. Domesticated cats belong inside in a safe environment, for the sake of overpopulation, Health, and those poor people at the shelter who have to deal with the after mess.

I can tell you if you tried to pursue anything about him trapping in michigan, the animal control officer would nail you with unlicensed animals and or feeding of wild animals. If you do not have all of the animals licensed and wearing a tag from the city you live in you are breaking the law, its $120 in the city I worked for....per animal. You would then have to appear in front of the judge who would tell you your neighbor has every right to trap domesticated animals that enter his yard. You would be given an amount of time to get licenses and keep the animals inside, of which the officer would make periodic check ups of your house, if animals were outside he would take pictures and depending on your co operation level decide whether or not to write you a second offense ticket...much more expensive.

Anyway I think you get the idea where im headed. I need to get back to work.

Even out in the country having outside cats is a touchy thing. In Bushnell, cats have wandered onto our property, bred, and become feral. Occasionally, one is a pet that has wandered away and gotten lost. Unfortunately, with all the raccoons, possums, and other scavengers on the property, there's a high risk of them getting distemper (and other nasty sicknesses). We've come into contact with several animals with it, and often, they walk right toward you. My kids have a healthy fear of the animals out there, but they still might try to pet a cat if one walked up to them. Because of that, we usually shoot any cat that we see around. Of course I wouldn't do that in a normal neighborhood, but our closest neighbors are a healthy distance away. Occasionally if it's obvious that the cat is healthy and lost, we've brought it to the shelter, but most of the time that's not the case.

shooting them seems a bit out there to me. we have many feral cats in hawaii. there are people that trap them, have them neutered, and set them free again. we also have people that feed them, but to be honest there are enough mice and rats around that they dont look hungry. we have feral cats on this property. you have never seen healthier cats!!! they are positivily 'buff'. when i got our kitty i was frightened that the wild cats would object to him, but even after having him 'done' he is in fact top cat here. apart from some minor scratches he has never come to harm. i would be livid if i thought someone would trap him, or shoot him. i would suggest, as others have, that you TRY to talk to him. maybe take over a pie or somesuch and appologise if your cat has been a niusence (whether he has or not) and give him your phone # to call if the cat bothers him any more. i have never had a cat that stays in all the time. i do understand that people living in apartments have no choice, but cats like freedom. all this would be un-heard of in england.

I'm looking forward to getting a cat myself (1 at first, maybe 2 later on). But, I have to have an automated kitty litter box thing ($180), plus a water dish (those fountains look cool ($40)). Then, I'll adopt a cat.

Note: I have a cover for the pool table. I don't mind if the kitty scraches the legs of the table, but once it touches my cloth....hrmmm......

Hopefully the neighbor realized that it was excessive without any communication to the rest of the neighborhood. Glad it's resolved (for now at least) without you making an enemy. :)
