Neotrace?

Hi there, I have an old copy of Neotrace on my computer. I use AntiVir to scan for viruses and other programs to scan for spyware regularly and am pleased to say I find nothing. But Port Scans keep coming up on my firewall's security log (I use Sygate). It says "Someone is scanning your computer" and lists them as "Minor Threats." The thing is I don't really know how to use Neotrace that well. What do I do when I find out who scanned me with the "WhoIs" button? What is the purpose of pinging or backtracing? I read on another forum that pinging the scanner is just like calling out your whereabouts. Is it a good idea to backtrace and or ping the scanners? Or am I just showing them where I am, thereby compromising my stealthed ports?

    Thanks for your time!

    Mike
