In trying to burn music onto a CD-R, I noticed I could not play the audio preview in Nero, so I uninstalled and re-installed the product.

And so I thought it was working fine.

Now I cannot burn anything to a CD at all?

    Errors like this:

    -could not perform end track
    -invalid writestate

Help! I need to backup my computer!

Also, is there anything else I can use should this software be bad, etc.

    ????

can your CDRW drive play/open any cds? if it cannot then maybe the IDE cable has come loose.... unplug and plug it in again.

on reinstall of Nero did you also get any updates that would be available for Nero5?

as I dont know your OS ... I'm just guessing but as a backup option so you can burn disks this one seems a goodun

    CDBurnerXP
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4242.html ( XP only )

    DeepBurner Pro
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4310.html ( win all )

I agree with Halo - it could be that your IDE Cable is not connected properly. Nero 5.5 is a very good program, and you shouldn't be having any problems with it.
After you uninstall it - go to your program files folder, and make sure the Ahead folder has been deleted. Then reboot and reinstall.
    Good luck.

The latest updates I've found bring Nero 5 up to Nero 5.5.10.56

    Do you have that installed?

Thanks for the info. With your question, I can play music on the CD-RW and my OS is Win ME.

No I do not have the updates installed. When I looked for that on the Nero website, I seen only the Nero 6 support.

I tried that and received the following error message:

Thanks Kodo! It is working fine.......

After I ran the exe file you mentioned, it then allowed me to run the update.

    Much appreciated!!!!!!!

    Guess what! The problems continue....
In the process of burning a CD, I now receive the following error

"session fixation error", could not perform fixation

Yikes. I was in the process of downloading pics from my digitial camera and everything worked fine. All connections are good, and I see the drive as F.

    Help.

try burning at a slower speed.
check for firmware upates to your burner.

consider trying CDBurnerXP or Deep Burner as posted above.

WARNING: LOTS of Nero 5 software that came with the CD BURNERS is Proprietary just to that drive model and serial #.
NERO OEM 5 Softwares will not all work on any CD BURNER.
BUT if you have a NERO 5 "retail" product then it has more of a chance to work with MORE CD BURNER manufactures & model Numbers... ALSO YOU will need the serial # to install it where they tell you OR NERO will shut down and stop working.
IF you cant locate the Serial number any where,,, then go to NERO website & they tell you how to get it out the registry.
YOUR NERO SOFTWARE HAD TO COME IN THE BOX WITH THE BURNER,,,, IF NOT THEN BUY THE RETAIL VERSION # 6 and use it,,,,
TOO BE SURE,,,, e-mail nero your MAKE& model number of your burner and they will let you know if any software they have is compatible !
I have 2 burners that did the same thing.
YOU must go to NERO website & find their tool downloads.
There is s software download that will completly CLEAN & uninstall NERO. Do that 1st.
Also download their DRIVER cleaner tool and run it.
If their are any DRIVERS that conflict with NERO then that tool will allow you to disable them.
Now,,, Install Nero soft ware and all should work!

I tried the Deep burner software and recevied error messages as well.
I will New Orleans lead and see if that works.

I've never heard of this.. can you please provide Ahead's documentation on this? I've never had problems with Nero5 as you suggest.

I would check this as firmware updates can cure many problems with drives... alot with CD media types and some burner issues.

The nero tools.. for completly removing Nero and its registry entries
http://www.nero.com/us/631938356417810.html maybe worth uninstalling Nero using the tools ... finding if any firmware updates are available for your burner ( let us know and we should be able to locate them for you ) and reinstall nero + updates again.

Nero's Info tool will be able to tell you what burner you have and what Firmware versions installed ... then its a case of going to the burners makers www and locating the firmware updates.

    Nero Info Tool http://www.nero.com/us/631940826989307.html

info will look like this....... eg. my drive info

Response to KODO ,,, had 2 drives that caused me problems,,, each drive had a Nero 5 software but were not Compatible with each other,,,
Contacting Nero and explaining the issue they Quickly informed me of their policy for each manufacture.
But they supplied me with the tools ,,, installed & tried them& NOW all problems are gone!
Nero techs were clear and informative !!!

    Thank you,
I find that interesting because in the last year I have ordered 3 different model burners for the facility that I am at and installed one Nero cd on from one of drives on each. There were no issues regarding a particular "version" of nero not being compatible with a particular drive. That kind of defeats the purpose of their software. In any case, I'm not trying to discredit you in any way. I'm suggesting that perhaps their techs were not telling you the truth. It's possible. Anything's possible. It's also possible by the time I used their software they didn't have this policy or perhaps the drive manufacturers didn't have any proprietary bits.. interesting.

Need help with installing firmwire. New to me....

    It starts to say"

    1. Choose Target drive to CRW 2440
    2. Choose source file

I have never installed firmwire before.

when you run the Aopen file this popup will apear and I guess this is the one you are talking about?

    http://img77.exs.cx/img77/3951/Capture-1.jpg

click setup and a new window will appear in this all you need to choose is the Target Drive from the drop down list the target drive will be your Aopen CDRW ( a good thing to do would also be to tick the backup current firmware ) the source file should be already chosen ( see pic below ) make sure English is the chosen language then click next and follow all prompts... that is as far as I can go as I dont have an Aopen drive.

    The Nero problem still exists:

I have successfully installed the firmware version 2.08 and double checked to make sure it was okey.

I then tried to burn a CD and received the following error:

"session fixation error, could not perform fixation, burn process failed"

This is scary as I need to back up my computer and I even tried the Deep Back burner program, and that did not work either.

However, the audio does play in Nero where as before no sound was coming out.

Any ideas on the next step?????

This is Nero' stake on this issue
    http://www.nero.com/en/helptool/947.htm#o947

only thought I have left as you say you are backing up data? are you filling the CDs? if so slightly reduce the amount of data on the CD see if that works... eg. if its a 700mb CD then only burn 650mb

  29. techiegirl2

    techiegirl2 Corporal

I tried that as well as reducing the speed and still received the errors. I tried some data and then music, with no luck.

I have also sent a e-mail to Nero, in hopes I will receive a reply from them as well.

Thank you for replying. But I will experiment again and reduce the amount of data and see what happens again. And the fun begins....wish me luck.

I will keep my eye on this thread and if anything springs to mind I will post it.... I hope you hear from Nero... plus I would also email AOpen as well as they may have come across this error with their drive and Nero.

Well I finally broke down and sent a message to Aopen who are the source of the hardware. Here is the reply I received from their tech support:

Try the drive onto another system. Make sure your up to date in driver
    updates

If problem persist, it will be a bad drive

And the story continues...Here is the latest message from Nero:

    Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your email and for your interest in our products.

Uninstall any other recording software and run the Nero cleantool to remove any software conflicts:

First make sure you have your Nero 5 serial key to install Nero/Nero Express with.
It should look like 15xx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxx. the serial number should be located on the inside of the Nero Jewel case, or on the back of the paper sleeve the Nero CD came in.
You can also go into your Registry, and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and under SOFTWARE_AHEAD_NERO BURNING-ROM_INFO obtain your Nero 5 serial key from here.
    Then download NeroClean Tool from
    ftp://ftp9.nero.com/attach/Nero-CleanTool.zip
    to your desktop.
Unzip the file with WinZip or WinRar and then double click on the EXE file to run it.
Reboot your system when the clean tool has finished. It will clean the registry and remove all Nero entries.
After that download and install the latest Nero 5 version from our webpage
    http://www.nero.com/us/631933457317970.html
Please note: the Update to our latest Nero 5.5.x.x release is free of charge.
If you want to upgrade to Nero 6 you will have to purchase a new Nero 6 serial number at our online shop on our webpage.
Important: Your Nero 5.xx serial number will not work with Nero 6.

If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again

I will keep you posted on the results after I attempt the corrections.

Attn: Halo.....The problem still exists, here is the e-mail I sent to Nero:

    Dear Nero Support:

Thank you for your response. I have followed your instructions below, however the removal tool download gave the error "Nero Clean Tool 1140 DLL error".

Without that tool, I then proceeded to manually uninstall the Ahead files out of the registry and rebooted the computer.

I then downloaded the latest Nero 5 version, 5.5.10.56 and it appeared to be successful. I then tested the download by attempting to back up my computer. First attempt failed, so I reduced my write speed to 8x and it still failed.

It failed with the following error messages: (appeared in the this order)

    medium speed error
    invalid write state
    could not perform end track
    session fixation error
    could not perform fixation
    session fixation error
    could not perform fixation
    burn process failed at 8x

    Halo, any suggestions???????????????????????????????????????????

Sorry Techiegirl... I've been away from my PC for a few days, busy time for me at present as I'm about to change jobs and career!!!!

with you getting all those errors still and the fact that you have followed Nero's removal instructions and re-installed it sooo many times, i'm sure you as Aopen said got a defective drive!! only one last way to make sure and that is if you can borrow a cdrw from a friend to install in your machine and see if nero works with that.. if it does then the drive is faulty, so return for replacement from the retailer if still in guarentee.

I tell you what. I have an Aopen burner sitting right next to me that did the same poop. It died a horrible death shortly afterwards. It simply ceased to function at all..

Well thanks for the reply guys, it is really stressing me out as I cannot make a backup. I even tried another software that was suggested in this post and it did not work.

So, I have e-mailed Nero with my reply and will await their answer. If nothing after that, the computer will go into the shop and I will have to buy another burner.

Funny, I purchased the burner only 2 years ago (found the invoice) and can't believe it would be wrecked already.

I will post to this thread if anything happens.

    Appreciate both of your inputs.

Hi, fairydust0340, and welcome to Major Geeks! It would be better if you started your own thread/post about your problem. This way you wouldn't be hijacking another persons thread, and the solutions given would be to your specific problem.

What motherboard do you have. I have the same problem and have learnt that it might be my motherboard.

Try making an ISO image and than burn that. That seems to get around my problem.
