Nero 7 burn speeds

I recently got a new DVDRW that came w/ Nero 7 Essentials. It won't let me set the burn speed below 8x for .bin/.cue VCD files. Nero 6.6 was previously installed w/ my CDRW and I could burn as slow as 1x. I need to burn these VCD files at 2x or 4x for best results; burning at 8x results in various playback problems: picture rolls, no color (only black and white), etc. Does anyone know if I can lower the burn speed below 8x in Nero 7? If so, how and where? I've poked around Nero and thier web site but haven't found anything helpful.....
