    Hi, Again MG's,

Using Nero 7 Ultra's Burning Express to burn full CDs (700MB) full of MP3 files I made myself from audio cassettes. Played cassettes through Nero Wave Editor, and transformed them into Lame MP3 files with some editing....about 60-70 MB's per album.

Trying to put 11-13 albums on one CD, with Nero Express, Music > MP3 CD function. Some pass verification and others have sector errors (?) which I can't understand.....
....anyway, I'm trying to cram as many onto one CD as possible, all under 700 MB, in MP3 Lame format.

When I tested some of them through my MP3 player I find there are frequently short, 'zippy' little skips....can't figure out what they are, or why I'm getting them. Am I trying to cram too much onto one CD (all under 700 MB's), or if Lame MP3 was not the right format to 'Save As'....

    Any help much appreciated,

I feel your pain scottpotraits. As they say .... been there, got the T-shirt etc. I burned 12 discs before I realised I'd goofed up. My recording media was 'bargain priced' and for some reason, I was burning at maximum speed. Oh, it was very impressive, time-wise but a disaster, otherwise. Now, when I use those bulk CDs, I turn the speed down to 8x. Lately some of the newer cheap disks from China, need 4x recording speed to be successful. :)

My burning media for CD's is "TDK", which I thought was a 'name brand' superior line. However, for Data DVD's, and TV DVD's, I use cheap generic 'Office Depot' DVD's, which are a bargain when they're on sale, and seem to work good for TV DVD movies. Now, I am not so sure if the burns for all my 'back-up' DVD Data-save disks are good enough quality. It's a good thing I haven't erased the source audio MP3 files from my HD drive C/.

I might have bought the 'TDK' and any other 'superior quality' name brand CDs off EBay, which might have been bad batches (?) from heat exposure, expiration date, or whatever. To buy serious name brand CDs not at some deal price somewhere can get AWFULLY expensive. But I can try burning them slower if that can help.

Actually, burning a complete Data DVD full of MP3 files is a very time consuming process. Now we have to make it slower, just to be on the safe side. It's a good thing I've only burned 3 CD's and one Data DVD - and noticed the problem before going that far into the project (which is to convert my whole cassette collection into digital MP3 files, then burn them onto CDs crammed with music; and I want to back-up the whole shebang onto Data DVDs). And I haven't deleted the files from the HD; all good since I have to start over.

So how do you feel about 'name brand' line CDs on EBay, or any other cut-rate deal-house on the internet ?? I guess you never really know what the quality will be.....

I'm noticing I used to have a wider choice of speeds for burning....like 40x, 24x 12x, 8x, 4x, even 2x !! Now it seems to only offer 16X and 8X once the CD is loaded into the drawer. Options do not let you adjust the speed beyond this. Is it in the software of the internal CD burner, the speed settings ? I think that software is Nero 'InCD', I think.

....Wait....just did a burn on Nero Express, and altho I set it to burn at 8X, once I hit the Next button it switched over and started burning at 16X.....no way to change it back, or abort and ruin the disk....Hmmmmm..... I want more choices of burn speed....

Where do you suggest getting the best deals on CD and DVD media, in 50 and 100 batches ?

    Hi,

Okay. I went out and bought 100 Memorex CD-Rs for a few pennies more than a generic spindle. .16 cents each, as opposed to .13 cents each. Better quality, new from the shelf at a store. No Ebay or BizRate "deals".

Next, I went to 'My Computer', right clicked on the 'E' Drive (internal CD/DVD burner), clicked 'Properties', and under the tab 'Recording' changed it from default 'fastest' to 2X. Shut down and rebooted.

Now when I launch Nero 7 Burning Express, and set up to burn an MP3 music CD, it gives me a few choices, as low as 8X. Before I only had 16X as a choice.....

Now I started over, re-burned all files at 8X, and tested them out. They are all fine, work good, with no more zippy skips.

Another store has a deal on DVDs this week....50 for $10. bucks. (.20 cents each). I will attempt a Data storage back-up DVD at the slowest speed. It will probably work out good.

Thanks for the heads up about cheap media and slower burning times.
    Much appreciated,
