Using nerovision to burn *.avi* movie file 717130KB size onto DVD-R 4.7GB disc, Nero tells me the disc is too small & it has to adjust the movie to fit the disc. Fine. Then when I go to preview the movie before burning it, the movie picture is moving forward jerky frame-by-frame that's not in sync with the audio. What am I doing wrong? How do I burn this so it's a normal movie picture?

Thanks for the suggestions. I may give them a try once I've finished wrestling with Nero.
Does *.avi* files downloaded with BitComet have to be converted to something else first before they can be burned? Does anyone know how this works?

It's not the actual burning that is an issue. It is converting the .avi to DVD-Video. Neither of those will help.

NewsFlash, instead of burning the movie to a disk, first save it as a file on your hard drive. You can then watch it with Nero Showtime and see if there truly is a problem with the finished movie or if it is a problem with your computer lacking the resources to run a realtime preview of the movie. If the movie turned out good, then burn it onto a disk instead of risking a coaster. On my old computer, I'd sometimes have problems with the preview but the finished movie worked OK. You shouldn't need to do anything special with them as long as Showtime can play them.

    Just Playin,

The movie is OK --I can watch it with Nero Showtime. But I'd like to transfer it to DVD so it can be watched on a regular DVD player hooked up to a TV. Is there a program that will convert .avi to DVD?

    Where are you?
I burned it as a "data dvd". Is there a way to burn it as a regular dvd? I don't know what you mean by a "coaster".

Open Nero Burning Rom. In the 'New Compilation' window, select DVD from the dropdown menu at the top. In the sidebar menu, select DVD Video, then New. In the File Browser, find the DVD folder you made with Nerovision. Inside that is a Video_TS folder. Drag that over to the red VIDEO_TS folder on the far left dan drop it there. You can then burn the DVD and watch it when it is done.

A coaster is a disc that will not work. The only thing they are good for is to set cold drinks upon so they don't leave water rings on the table.

    Hey thanks, Just Playin.
My version of Nero is different though. I have Nero3 Vision, & NeroOEM Express, and I think it's Nero Vision that I'm supposed to use to make DVD's. When I select the "Make DVD" option, I can choose "DVD Video" or "Editable DVD". So I selected DVD Video>Add video files. Then a message pops up:

"Your project currently exceeds the capacity of a normal DVD, but still fits onto a DVD-9 disc. You need a DVD-9 media to record your project on.
Do you want to have the project quality reduced automatically so that your project will fit into the available space?
If you click No, the project size will be expanded to DVD-9".

My movie is only 701MB! So I select YES anyway, and the used space on the dvd jumps to 4GB (The disc is 4.7GB capacity) however the movie itself is only 701MB so I don't understand this at all. If I try to carry on, the thing starts burning but the estimated time to burn is like 4 hours or something ridiculous like that, and then at the end it says it couldn't do it afterall that. I don't know what to do.
I just downloaded and installed AVI2DVD and tried to use that, and it won't work either.

That's normal. The avi format is far more compressed than the MPEG2 format used in a DVD. It must be converted from the avi fomat to the MPEG2 format, which results in a much larger file. Get Super and convert your avi to a DVD compliant VOB. It's suspicious that two different applications can't convert that avi. If this one can't either, the avi itself may be the problem. Also, if Super converts the avi to vob, you can then use that instead in Nerovision to make your DVD. You may have better results with that.

Thanks, Just Playin. I went to download Super but I don't know WHAT to download, it looks so complicated. The file that I'm dealing with looks basically like this: nameofmovie.dvdrip.xvid-sum.avi When I double click this file it opens in NeroShowtime. There were 3 other files that came with this, but they don't do anything.

Also, when I tried to use AVI2DVD it asked me to select an "audio stream" which I totally don't understand what I'm supposed to put there.

Thanks for those links, Just Playin!. You're a good egg, thanks.:)

While I was awaiting your post, a little voice in the back of my mind suddenly piped-up with "disable Norton completely and see what happens...disable Norton and see what happens...disable Norton..." so I took a chance and disabled Norton Autoprotect, disabled Norton from StartUp, and rebooted my machine. Then I put a disc in the tray and started NeroVision and guess what happened? The movie burned perfectly and beautifully! So now my next question is WHY DO I KEEP USING NORTON?

Anyway, thanks again for all your helpful input and*especially* for enlightening me about the coaster thing;)

You can find some very good alternatives to Norton here.
