.NET reinstall

My mistake, I thought . Net versions were all inclusive to previous versions.
I uninstalled ver 1.1 and 2.0 and 3.5 after installing 4.0. Now I am getting errors from previously installed software. I tried to reinstall but its not working. I get an error 2711 or the install just stops., I looked up the error and the wiki definitions was not helpful. but suggested my system was in danger. Offered to sell an "error fix pgm'
System is XP. major functions are working fine. internet, printing , IE, word processing etc. I think wat is popping up on boot is a driver fro my HP all in one printer scanner fax. it seems to be looking for something in the early . net. any suggestions on how to reinstall., or just ignore the error. as I said all seems good after the boot up process.
