Netgear MA111 11mbps but rans at 160kb/s!! why is it so slow?

the signal shows an 80 to 90% strenght yet speed is about 10 times slow then what it should be and I want to know why, it's always been like this and I hate that they advertise it to be faster, it is connected to a usb1.1 port. Any ideas? do you know if all wireless cards do the same thing?

 

Well, let's see-- 802.11b is 11Mbps, and 802.11g is 54Mbps, but your DSL or cable connection is only about 1.5 - 3Mbps, so downloads of 160KB/s are not out of line, no?

who's talking about internet, same lame answer all representatives tell me, so I before hand have to tell them that I don't use internet. It's a LAN. any other answer?

 

You posted here, so you must be on the internet.One would assume you are talking about internet download speeds because your LAN is not going to tell you what speeds you are transferring data across it. If you're going to call someone attempting to help you figure out what your problem is "lame", then figure it out for yourself.

 

I connect to my 192.168.0.1 that has a server ftp program so it tells me what is the speed I get when I watch a movie from another pc and such. You don't know computers, now help me.

 

alright! I'm sorry, sorry I wasn't too specific to my problem, but I just say if 11mbps is 1MB/s why am I getting to slow speed (160kb/s) while copying files which are simple network functions I just don't get it, having a 80% strenght! at least give me 800kb/s you know.
